Warm, Welcoming Retreat on Shenandoah River and Stunning views

This 3 bedroom house has a mile of Shenandoah Riverfront and is situated on a 200 acre farm. It is a warm and welcoming retreat for family and friends. It also backs up to the George Washington National Forest.
You will find all of the comforts you expect in this lovely home. There is a brand-new kitchen that opens to a huge living and dining room with lots of windows, and two decks, so that you can enjoy the unlimited views. There is also a room where you can enjoy board games with your friends or family or perhaps sit and read a good book. There are two bedrooms upstairs and a master bedroom on the main floor. There are two full baths. One off master bedroom 1st floor, 2nd in finished basement next to laundry area. There are many attractions right on the farm itself. Enjoy walking trails along the River and through the meadows. There are kayaks, canoes, to swim or fish, and end with a cookout at the pavilion. Build a fire and roast marshmallows where you enjoy gazing at the millions of stars you never knew were there. Also, you will like exploring the many hiking trails in the National Forest and enjoying the stunning views. Kayak tours on the river are also available.
There are Wineries, Breweries, Golf and Antiquing in nearby towns. It's only a one-hour drive to Washington, D.C. Enjoy other historic sites such as Gettysburg , Luray Caverns, Charlottesville, and Monticello. All are an easy day's trip. The Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown is approximately a 3-hour trip. There are also two ski resorts fairly close - Massanutten is about 55 minutes away and Bryce can be accessed in 35 minutes.
Whether you are looking for adventure, solitude, or time with family, you will find it at this wonderful get-away.

Beautiful country property. The host was wonderful and very easy to communicate with. My wife, our three college student kids, and our middle schooler all found the property to be clean, comfortable, and homey. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a vacation away from busyness.

Beautiful Country Retreat
This property is on farmland with vast fields and a wide river. The house has many large windows and the view is quite spectacular. The house borders a picturesque barn and pasture, where two cows live. The house itself has very large rooms on the first floor and the master bedroom is huge. The kitchen is quite large as well. We enjoyed going down to the river and sitting and wading in the water. Unfortunately, the water level was very low when we were there (July) and we could not go out in the kayaks, tubes, etc. that are available at the house. I will note that there is no bathroom on the second floor. Also, it would have been nice to have a small table in the kitchen to sit at and have coffee or snacks. When we were there satellite TV was not working on the TV in the family room, but I think that was just a temporary glitch. Overall, we had a great time at the house. I would recommend it if you are looking for a country getaway.

A piece of heaven
Peace just descends on us all when we stay here. The home is beautiful, well-stocked, and very clean. We hardly want to leave the property when we're there. However, we did enjoy the "wilds" of Harper's Ferry and ventured into a couple of the small communities nearby. All worth it, but we're always happy to return to "heaven".

The pictures do not do this property justice. Its more beautiful than you can imagine. The river access was super easy. The house is clean and has EVERYTHING you could possibly need at your fingertips. Kathleen and Jerry were very helpful and available to help with any little detail. Their recommendation of Crabills meat market up the road was great and they even pointed us in the right direction for a restaurant in town. The only thing we would have done differently about our stay was to spend more time on this property because it was the best spot around. Do yourself a favor and book a weekend to just hang at this beautiful property. So relaxing.

Shenandoah Paradise
Look no further for your stay in the Shenandoah mountains. This gorgeous spot was so peaceful and serene. All you could hear were birds chirping, the rustling wind and river. There are kayaks, a fire pit, outdoor picnic tables and hammocks. It is a birding, hiking, and kayaking paradise. The house itself is beautifully decorated and each room was large, tasteful, and comfortable. The master bedroom was huge, comfortable and elegant. It had everything we needed including a large bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the room well lit. There was plenty of room for our clothing. The kitchen was well stocked with every condiment,,we could want. There were ample plates, silverware, cups, glasses, pots and pans. We thought we would go out to dinner more often, but we wound up eating in because the property was so gorgeous. We didn’t want to leave. Enjoy your stay at this beautiful property. We hope to come back very soon.

The property was peaceful. There are plenty of paces to stroll and nearby hiking trails as well. The sound of the water was soothing and relaxing. I am sure it must be a great retreat from the heat of the summer as tubing and kayaking would be readily available.

42nd anniversary trip
As other have said, the pictures only hint at the beauty of this property. We had planned to do some tourist visits to the caverns, etc, but we realized we were already in our own private mountain park and it couldn't get any better than this. We hiked, fished in the river, and grilled steaks from Crabill's up the street. We watched the mountain range on all sides of the surrounding valley turn into fall. We identified more song birds in this spot than in any other rental. We watched as deer, wild turkey and cattle grazed in the field. The night sky was wonderful for star gazing, and I even saw a meteor. If we could live here, we would....

A Garden of Eden(with a Farmhouse)
To be honest, I would like to give Kathleen and Jerry's property a negative review, in order to keep the place all to myself...but the truth should be told. The pictures on the website do not give an accurate depiction of the house or the property. It is WAY more beautiful, charming, and comfortable. As soon as we arrived, it felt as though we were plopped down in the middle of an National Geographic nature show. In our first few moments we were greeted by Whitetail Deer, Wild Turkey, Great Blue herons, Green herons, Belted Kingfishers, Osprey, and a huge variety of songbirds. The list continued to grow as the weekend continued...and the Smallmouth bass were bitin'!!! The farmhouse, itself, is much roomier than it appears in the photos. It was actually rather surprising. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The kitchen is as well. The cabinets are better stocked than those at my own house. From a large array of spices to every cooking utensil that you could possibly need, you will want for nothing. The plentiful supply of towels and the bed linens are soft and of obvious high quality. The one rainy day gave us a well-needed day of rest from all our outdoor activities. Even then, Mother Nature's show continued through the large windows throughout the house. We all could still watch the deer and flocks of turkey feeding in the surrounding fields. A rolling mist across the green mountains gave us the illusion being in Ireland. This place is simply heaven!!!

Lovely stay in a beautiful setting
The house and property are exactly as advertised. Very clean, spacious, and well appointed. Plenty of space for our family of four plus grandma. The property is huge and in a very quiet and peaceful setting. Kids loved the direct access to the river. The host is very responsive and we took her many suggestions for local food, local meat at Crabill’s (best breakfast sausage ever!), and local activities. Could not have asked for anything more. It was a great reprieve from our temporary apartment living while our house is being renovated. Definitely recommend this property if your goal is to relax in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley!

Private and Peaceful Paradise
What a great getaway from the hustle and bustle in a beautifully private setting. Once you arrive you feel like you are far away from everything. However, you are only minutes away from so many other options. The beauty of the property and the river is amazing. The farmhouse was spacious, comfortable and very clean. Everything that you need to cook is available in the kitchen. We stopped at Crabill's Store as suggested and picked up a few delicious steaks and bacon - so glad we did!. We enjoyed the easy access to the river and the kayaks and floats that were provided with the property. The pavilion was more than expected with electric and items for campfire and other conveniences. Fishing was best from right off the bridge. The hosts were very detailed and informative prior to our arrival. They made you feel right at home. The entire process from beginning to end was so easy. We were only on a short weekend break but enjoyed every minute of our stay. Looking forward to staying again! I highly recommend experiencing the serenity of this property.

This place IS the destination! The house was very nice and very accommodating. The river front was the attraction. Outside of a few day trips to hike in the national forest and see the caverns, we hung out on the property the whole time. fishing, tubing, kayaking, fire pit, secluded privacy as far as you can see, wildlife, Berry picking, hiking trail up the mountain, lunch picnics under the mature trees and beautiful sunsets…. I could go on, but please do not fill up this properties calander, because we will definitely be back!

Great Family Memories
Wonderfully secluded farm house with friendly and responsive owners. We explored the mountain, fished, had camp fires every night, cooked up steaks from Crabill's (must-go), enjoyed the cows and birds from the back porch. Our young children played in the trees, grass and dirt. My wife and our oldest daughter each found their first 4-leaf clover. River was little chilly to tube down, but we'll do that next time. We also went to Front Royal Wines for some great VA wine and also ended up at the Apple House for their birthday bash. Couldn't ask for a better gold old American family trip to slow life down.
