## Emplacement
Strasbourg, labeled City of Art and History, is an essential stop when you cross the Alsace. Its old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is internationally famous for its exceptional architectural, historical and cultural heritage. The traces of its medieval past and renaissance period are deeply rooted in its genes.
Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Grande Île, surrounded by the Ill River, is home to the heart of the city centre. Through the pedestrian streets, all more picturesque than each other, the visitor can only be enthusiastic about the perfection of built heritage. With its canals, banks, cobbled streets and flowered half-timbered houses, Petite France is one of the most romantic districts on the Grande Île. It was once the district of tanners, millers and fishermen. Built in 1572 on the water, the Tanners' House, now a restaurant, is a fine example of the harmony of the place.
On the Vauban dam, a panoramic terrace offers a beautiful view of the towers of the covered bridges, the river, Petite France and the cathedral. The Neustadt, a former German imperial quarter, is another area of Strasbourg that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Place de la République, which looks like a park, is a highlight. The park of the Orangerie and its lake also allow a pleasant moment of relaxation in a green space.
Events also have a special place. In addition to the famous Strasbourg Christmas market, the city offers at the beginning of autumn its Musica festival dedicated to contemporary music, as well as the Sacred Days in June, focused on sacred music from around the world.
Strasbourg is also the seat of European institutions. As such, the European Quarter is home to the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights.
