Staff were fine...everything else was just about ok...beautiful old building definitely in need of refurbishment...being advised that the lifts were broken 1 day before travel was poor!..breakfast was disappointing so we cancelled 2 further days breakfast bookings (i asked if it was possible to have poached eggs to be told that the machine was broken to allow for this)?..We enjoyed our stay in Exeter but would not recommend this hotel as it is obviously being run down by the current ownership.

A completely 5-star experience. Every member of staff was friendly, cheerful and helpful. Valet parking as standard, slick and efficient reception, immaculate room which was serviced at least twice per day, beautiful pool, steam room and sauna. The grounds were immaculate and a joy to explore.
Both restaurants served top class meals. Total luxury from end to end.
That all comes with a sizeable price tag, and service charge on everything, but the experience is worth every penny.
We personally recommend booking early for the restaurants and Spa treatments, you can do this way in advance of your visit.
We treated ourselves to a massage at the Elan Spa and it was professional and very relaxing. Highly recommend.
