We had a wonderful one night stay at Lava Stone. We chose Ammoudi Bay over the main town Oia for the quiet setting and beautiful view, away from the overrun main town. All catamarans etc come into this bay for the sunset and we were able to watch it from the privacy of our own terrace. The hike up the big cobblestone steps to the main town is a bit exhausting - you can ride a mule up the hill instead if you wish… Do take advantage of them organizing a pick up for you from the port / airport. Not cheap, but very pleasant ride. Be aware that the car cannot reach the property and you have to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs. We only had a backpack, so that was no issue for us.

Beautiful location but have to be able to do stairs to get around. Seafood dining close, other restaurants up the stairs in Oia. Very convenient for a catamaran tour. Will stay here again, just to look over the water when you get up and go to bed

Beautiful water views. We loved sitting outside on the patio and we even saw a cruise ship leaving one evening. The rooms were beautiful and cleaned every day with great AC in each room. The downside of this location is that you’ll need to pay for transportation up to Oia every time you want to go somewhere. Spent hundreds of Euros in just three days and never went further south than the ferry port. We did the stairs twice, but you’re not going to want to do that climb every time you want to go somewhere. Walking down is easier and you can also walk along in the street which we did. But there is no car parking down in Ammoudi Bay. There are four restaurants. We ate at one for lunch and it was over 130€ for 3 drinks, bread, hummus and two salads. Other than those four restaurants there is a small shop that has a limited amount of ice cream, coffee, and a few deli sandwiches. Also there are 20-30 steps up to the rooms. They will help you with your luggage. It’s a nice place to stay. It’s just not convenient to exploring Santorini.

Even though we had to lug our luggage up the steps to the hotel, we loved it! No complaints here. Vicky in reception reached out to me a week before to arrange transportation from the airport to the hotel as well as our transfer to the ferry. She also arrange to have our luggage brought down to the shuttle on our departure. The restaurants below the hotel were wonderful. Wish we had more time to spend at Lava Stone to enjoy the sunrise. Walking the 250 steps up to take pictures by the blue domes were well worth it. Loved everything about Greece. Recommendation, do your shopping in Athens because it’s so much cheaper than the islands.

This place was amazing and in a beautiful location right where the nice restaurants are and most of the boat tours leave from which was great! It is difficult to rate this hotel. All rooms have a big balcony/patio and provide some of the most astonishing views I've seen. The ocean, the views to the caldera and the castle, the sunsets, really beautiful. I was actually sad the day before leaving the place, couldn't get enough of that view. To me, it is the hotel with the most beautiful view I have stayed at. The staff was friendly and provided a courtesy wine to enjoy while seeing the views from the balcony. So, why not 5 stars? Some 5 sets of stairs have to be walked to reach the room, not ideal when carrying bags. Hotel is located at Ammoudi Bay, a beautiful spot, but cars are not allowed to access the bay. A van will take you from a parking lot, some 600m away from the hotel, to the bay. This works fine unless you have to leave early in the morning. We had to leave at 5am. Van services were not available and walking to the parkade from the bay carrying the bags was not a nice experience. Expect to hear sounds at night. I had to unplug the fridge as it kept waking me up and some transformer outside the room was also noisy. Windows don't have much sound insulation and the bay is windy, so you will hear wind and ocean sounds throughout the night. Anyhow, small things here and there. Just things to keep in mind and be prepared. Overall, I would say these are small details that I would gladly endure to gaze upon that view again. If you can carry bags and don’t wake up easily, you will love the experience.

Lava stone is a beautiful property in Ammoudi Bay. Away from the craziness of Oia, it is an oasis on the Aegean. Hearing the ocean while you drift off to sleep is a luxury in itself. The hotel staff was extremely accommodating, welcoming and kind. Would highly recommend.

Lava Stone was great! My husband and I arrived 2-3 hours before check in and we were able to grab lunch at the Ammoudi Bay fish tavern and check in early. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The are A LOT of steps to get to this hotel, so if that is a problem, don’t stay here. The VIEWS and atmosphere are so worth the stairs!

選擇這間酒店時請三思. 先說優點房間裝修很精緻,有巨型浴缸, 床舖很大很舒適亦乾淨整潔。 工作人員也很友善但請注意工作人員并不是長駐在酒店, 所以沒有長時間的行李寄存服務. 我預訂這間酒店房間是為了欣賞日落美景, 但日落被其他建築物擋住, 附上我實際在房間看到的實景供參考. 而酒店的位置可以說是一場惡夢. 由Oia 巴士站步行前往酒店只有2條道路, 一是需時接近20分鐘的樓梯級, 會有騾子在旁邊經過.另一條需時相約，旁邊有汽車經過. 即使駕車也要泊在停車場然後乘搭免費接駁車到附近碼頭再步行樓梯前往. 極之不推薦給行動不便或有大量行李的人選擇,由其是在烈日當空. Think twice before choosing this hotel. First, the pros: the room is beautifully decorated, with a large bathtub, and the bed is very big, comfortable, and clean. The staff are also very friendly, but note that they are not stationed at the hotel full-time, so there is no long-term luggage storage service. I booked this hotel to enjoy the sunset view, but the sunset was blocked by other buildings. I've attached a photo of the actual view from my room for reference. As for the hotel's location, it's a nightmare. There are only two ways to walk to the hotel from the Oia bus station: one involves nearly 20 minutes of stairs, with donkeys passing by, and the other takes a similar amount of time with cars passing along the way. Even if you drive, you have to park in a parking, then take a free shuttle to the nearby port and walk up the stairs. I highly discourage anyone with mobility issues or lots of luggage from choosing this hotel, especially under the sun.
