The room and location were excellent — spacious, comfortable, and well located near sites and transit. However, our stay was ruined by three major problems:
1. Unacceptable Check-In: we were standing on the street & the host refused to provide entry instructions until we send copies of our passports via an insecure method (WhatsApp). This step was not mentioned in the listing. The delay and security risk were extremely stressful, as the property is unstaffed.
2. Hidden Fees & Booking Confusion: We were charged an additional cleaning fee that was not itemized in the total price from Expedia. This fee confusion arose because the property is a Vrbo listing booked via Expedia. Both platforms punted responsibility, forcing us to pay. Lack of price transparency was a major issue.
3. Misleading Shared Accommodation: The listing is highly misleading. This is not a private home, but a shared apartment with four separate rental rooms. We had a private kitchen, but the single bathroom was shared among all guests. The communal bathroom was sometimes unclean (hair/food residue) and required constant mopping due to a tiny shower stall, which guests are expected to clean.
We cannot recommend this property. The poor check-in, hidden fee, and misleading description of the shared unit mean it failed basic expectations. Future guests must be ready for booking discrepancies and shared living conditions if booking via Expedia (may be different if booking directly via Vrbo).
