The self check in was nice, the room was clean, and there is a really good ice cream shop across the street

The hotel lobby was very nicely decorated, and the staff was very helpful. They stored the fish we caught, and had boxed up for shipping, in their walk in freezer. The room was very small, but clean and comfortable. On the negative side, there were quite a few homeless drug addicts walking around the property and begging for money. One of them would not leave us alone. The hotel needs to improve their security for guests.

The house is exactly as photos appeared. The modern house was 180 degree switch from our cabin rentals during our vacation. Everything is clean & new- it was just completed this spring. Hot tub was a nice relaxing spot after a long day of traveling.

The beds and pillows were not very good. The breakfast was fair considering some reviews said they ran out of food, that was not the case for us. They did run out of coffee and when it was replenished it was weaker than we like.

We didn’t actually stay at this property. We made a reservation for this place on February 1st and the reservation was accepted and booked. Five months later with less than 18 hours before check in we were told that we were being moved and that it was an “upgrade”. We were moved from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom walk up apartment, hardly what could be considered an upgrade. We were told it was a mistake as they do not accept a one night reservation for that property. The place we were moved to (512 W 5th ave, Anchorage, Birch Haven) was ok but it was not of our choosing, we would never have chosen a walk up for that night when we had to bring all our luggage in to repack for departure the next day. We were offered a full refund but we had no time to do that given our plans and day of travel without internet service. We were stuck. The place was clean enough but even though inside smoking is prohibited it still smelled of cigarette smoke. My wife experienced immediate upper airway congestion, cough and headache due to the smell of this residual cigarette smoke making it difficult/ challenging to sleep and necessitating the use of her asthma inhaler. This was not a good experience. Why were we not notified in Feb of the restriction to this property so other arrangements could be made?
