"We had such a wonderful stay at Rafters Lodge and only wish we had booked for longer. We travelled with our two dogs, one is very anxious, so finding somewhere peaceful and secure is really important to us. This place was absolutely perfect. The location is incredibly quiet (just the sound of sheep!!) and the enclosed garden meant the dogs could relax safely, which made a huge difference for us. One of the highlights was being able to walk straight from the lodge through beautiful countryside to the nearby beaches. It made our days of exploring so easy and enjoyable. After long walks along the coast and through the fields, coming back to the lodge and soaking in the hot tub was exactly what we needed. There are also some fantastic local pubs within easy reach and the lodge is just a short drive from other lovely Devon towns. Overall it was the perfect mix of peaceful countryside, great walking, and cosy comfort. We left feeling completely relaxed and would absolutely love to come back again — next time for a longer stay!"

"Staff were variable from courteous and welcoming to indifferent. The spa facilities are too small for the size of the hotel. Menu options were uninspiring and generally overpriced. Best thing about the hotel is undoubtedly the fantastic view"

"An ideal home and location for 6 adults and 2 dogs to spend a chilly New Year. Spacious, welcoming and lovely and warm! The hot-tub and the table tennis (in the garage) were untouched by us although the woodburner was wonderful, as was The Thatch with it's excellent food and entertainment only a couple of minutes stroll down the road. there are great walks up to Baggy Point or across the beach or over the dunes so popular with New Year walkers and those who like to jog.The kitchen, with the island, provided plenty of space and equipment - the wine fridge was a welcome, unexpected bonus.Loved it all!"

"Such a lovely place to stay with such beautiful views of the sea. Just a short walk in to Town for all the amenities and restaurants too. "

"Smelt strongly of damp on entering communal corridor. Flat seemed ok but lots of road noise due to front window not sealing when closed. Was better when i went outside and pushed it closer. Swivel chair bases rusted badly. Sweeping brush was digusting and covered in muck and fluff before we used it. Bathroom radiator rusty, squeegies were covered in black mold. Extractor fan not working. Wardrobe had little space as full of boxes ironing board and clutter. "

"This is a nice property that's had love and care poured into restoring it. The property is however over-marketed (and over-priced) in our opinion. Expedia market as a 'cottage' and the pin shows a central Woolacombe location. Its actually in a holiday/residential park above Woolacombe. The park its in has a run down feel to it and the first impression was of deep disappointment. Once you've moved in then its a lovely property on the inside. The garden is communal - there is no division between 'your bit (nice picnic bench as shown in pictures) and the adjoining properties. Its quiet at night and road noise (road is 20m away) is not intrusive. The location is not convenient to Woolacombe. We cycled and walked down into town. The road is steep and is fine for adults however its the main road to Woolacombe and would not be safe for young children. Its quite a climb back out too. Walking was fine apart from the first 300m. This is again on the road - there are no pavements or verges and did not feel particularly safe - after which there is a pleasant walk past stables and fields into town. There is a bus - however the stop is after the 300m pavement less stretch. You can of course drive down. We were a couple - so did not 'value' bunk beds or the thoughtful games etc provided. If you want a base for exploring the Combes then this works and there are lots a great guest reviews attesting to a good stay."
