"We stayed in an inward facing family room with a double and single bed. Both beds were very comfortable and clean. The tea/coffee facilities and bottled water were nice to have. The ensuite bathroom was spacious and well appointed however the grouting needs an update as it has gone black and looks dirty."

"I booked a double King Bed room for my wife and I and when i arrived we were given a room with twin beds, not the romantic stay we was looking for. I was then offered to upgrade to a room with a king bed (which i had already booked) for an additional £20. Also offered a sea view room for £80 which i politely declined, then this was immediately reduced to £50, declined again and then offered to me at £40. I felt forced into paying for a double bed so paid the £20 where the room was a little smelly so i just paid an additional £40 and had the sea view room, but if i originally had the king room from the start i wouldn't have needed to moves rooms in the first place or forced to pay anything extra. Joanna on reception was not helpful at all. All that aside, the hotel was great, breakfast was lovely and bar was good in the evening. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to make use of the gym / pool facilitlies. Parking for the night was £29 (with a discount code provided by reception) Overall, great stay but did not get what i orginally booked and forced to pay extra for an upgrade. I am also a Hilton Honors Member and reguarly stay in the Hilton chain, but this counted for nothing as i booked with Expedia."

"My fiancée and I stayed at The Alfriston during the last weekend of half-term. The welcome was pleasant, and we appreciated the complimentary glass of wine. Unfortunately, almost every part of the stay had issues. Our room was small, overlooking the spa pool, with fairly standard amenities. Dinner was disappointing. The sole server was friendly but repeatedly forgot our order. Drinks took 20–30 minutes to arrive, the rosé was served warm despite which is quite bad when it costs £12–15 a glass. My salmon, broccoli and puffed rice dish (£25) arrived without the rice due to a delivery issue, leaving a very underwhelming meal. We were offered just £5 off the bill. Breakfast was no better. On the first morning, our eggs were overcooked and had to be remade (20 mins wait). On the second, it took around 40 minutes to prepare two sausages and scrambled eggs despite the restaurant being quiet. The spa was also disappointing, with no towels available and the outdoor pool full of children running and shouting. While it was half-term, don’t advertise it as a luxury experience if you allow it to be treated like a kids pool. At checkout, our concerns were initially met with little response, although a senior staff member stepped in and offered a resolution, which I appreciated. Perhaps we were unlucky, but the experience fell well below expectations. The highlight of the trip was the beautiful weather for the Seven Sisters walk."
