Marina Vista turned out to be a wonderful location for our group of 15 college friends and spouses (mostly now in our early 70s) to spend a week together in late August. We took advantage of the beautiful lakefront location to enjoy swimming, canoeing, a full-day rental of a pontoon boat from the Marina, etc. We biked the length of the Bluff and hiked along the Penn Yan - Dresden "rails to trails" hiking path. We took advantage of the chance to visit interesting attractions in the area, including the Watkins Glen gorge, the Corning Glass museum, and the women's rights national historical site I Seneca Falls. The house itself has a very usable kitchen, and they had several folding tables and chairs available to us for our large group meals. There was adequate space for everyone to for indoor gatherings. We took advantage of the game room, and definitely enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor hot tub.
As for any complaints, or suggestions:
1. Many of our days were hot and muggy, and the bedroom air conditioners were noisy, but generally not effective or efficient. Consider upgrading them...they're not all that expensive.
2. The house should get a more thorough cleaning between rentals. We noticed lots of cobwebs that were there long before we arrived, and the floors (though swept), probably need to be more thoroughly mopped. Several of the women in the group were comparing how dirty and black the bottoms of their feet got when walking barefoot inside the house.
3. Please consider providing bed linens and towels (and some potholders for the kitchen too!)...even if you raise the rental cost a few bucks. We ended up $200 extra for a service to make the beds with sheets and pillowcases for us, and everyone was asked to bring their own towels and beach towels with them (a nuisance if you're flying and trying to make room in your luggage).
These few suggestions for improvement do not take away from our overall appreciation of the wonderful time we spent at the Marina Vista. Everyone in the group said it was a great choice!
