Cortijo El Potro is a nice, well appointed house with access to a lovely saltwater pool. Oliver and Maria are friendly, helpful, and gracious hosts. Orgiva is a great basecamp for cycling, hiking and exploring La Alpujarra.
Orgiva is a diverse town with Spanish locals, expats, and a noticeable number of counterculturists. Dining options are a bit limited for long stays, but the kitchen works well for making meals and there are plenty of options for buying groceries.
The area has its share of barking dogs, and during our visit, a relatively loud four-day festival; though…that’s Spain. The walk to town is short, but fairly step, especially with an armful of groceries. There are two friendly dogs and cats on the property, which for most people is a plus; however, if one has a cat allergy, this may be an issue as some guests may let the cats come inside.
