Famous for its booming art scene, historic downtown and close proximity to New York City, this town is an ideal East Coast destination.

Located on the western bank of New York's Hudson River, Newburgh is known for its lively arts scene and cultural diversity, making it a popular getaway for New Yorkers.

Newburgh’s roots are ingrained in American history. The riverfront town hosted George Washington’s Headquarters during the Revolutionary War, and today, you can tour the rooms and watch costumed re-enactments to learn more about this pivotal period in American history.

Experience Newburgh as it was in the 19th century at the Captain David Crawford House. Both a museum and an art gallery, this historic destination is designed to reflect the homes of the wealthy sea captains who lived in the Hudson Valley at the turn of the century. Admire paintings hailing from the Hudson River School as you walk through the historic building.

The city is also a hub of the arts. Watch a show at Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, a venue that hosts musicians from around the world. After enjoying a performance at the historic destination, head to the waterfront afterward for shopping or dinner. Cafés, bars and restaurants line the street, many of which offer outdoor seating so you can enjoy views of the Hudson River as you dine.

Spend the afternoon aboard a paddle wheel cruise to experience the river firsthand. Indulge in a dinner cruise or just take a river ride for a few hours. Both of these are unique ways to experience the picturesque landscape of the Hudson Valley. The boats are moored along the waterfront and public parking provides easy access.

Newburgh is located 65 miles (107 kilometers) north of New York City. The Amtrak station is located just across the river in the town of Beacon, allowing convenient transportation to the city. JFK and LaGuardia International Airports are both easily accessible by train or car.

Visit Newburgh during the autumn to experience the fall foliage or plan your trip during the summer to enjoy the warm weather. Newburgh’s close proximity to New York City is balanced by its slow-paced atmosphere, making it ideal for a romantic getaway or a family vacation.
