Loved our stay. Spot is close to the subway and restaurants! Didnt go hungry. Need a late night snack? Just head down and all restaurants are lined up. The rooms were decent. Bed is comfy. Air conditioning worked and bathroom was clean. Would definitely stay there again!

The hotel is old and outdated. Pillow was dirty, electical plugs was not working. The only good thing about the place was the location its accessible to the subway (5mins walk). The restaurant below was so convenient.

Five stars for the value!!! And everything else was good, too! Good location, near subway entrances, and really eclectic side street that it’s on, totally loved it. Would stay there again.

Really good location , the room was clean ,you can store your luggage ! No elevator (bear in mind you have to carry your stuff up),old mattress , you couldn’t adjust the water temp it either was freezing cold or burning hot, no small refrigirator! Overall it’s really worth it for the money you pay, especially if you only need a room to sleep and will spend most of your time exploring the city!

Excellent location, clean rooms, helpful and friendly staff, good air conditioning. This is a basic sleeping room and nothing fancy. The location is good. Staff were friendly and helped me when requested. They also carried my luggage up to the room and back down. The stairs are steep and narrow

This is an old no frills hotel that's basic as can be but the price point is worth it. It's on a busy street but I slept ok with earplugs in. Cleaned every day. WiFi worked. Good size TV on the wall. Polite staff. Would stay here again. One small point is I don't know the last time the windows were cleaned as I couldn't see out my one very well.

The room was adequate for the price. I did miss not having refrigerator, microwave and coffee in the room. I found the price of coffee, and food very expensive in NY. All in all it was still good for the price and in a good location.

The location is great; right in the heart of New York University and Astor Place with funky shops and places to buy groceries and prepared foods, especially at Rays Pizza just steps away. Another restaurant is under construction next door, and the Number 6 Subway is a block away, the R Subway 2 blocks away. Take note that 8th Street Subways Stations are local stops. There is no elevator at this historic hotel, which used to be a druggie hot spot, but it's cleaned up now, and remains very laid back. There was no mini-fridge in my room, and the bed was too hard and creaked horribly. They didn't provide face cloths or a tissue box, and the towels were rough, but the negatives are to be expected for a budget hotel. It's a favorite for European travelers.

Based on the reviews and price of my stay, I expected the bare minimum and don’t have complaints besides the unusable WiFi and pillows which are so old that they smelled bad even through the clean pillow cases. I had to put my own pillow case I brought, as a second layer of coverage over it. Other than that, it was a good stay in a clean and small old world hotel that also happens to be in a fantastic location in the East Village. The AC in my room looked fairly new and worked very well through my stay so looks like they’ve addressed that issue which I saw in several reviews. My room had a nice large window with European style wooden doors over it to block light and some sound at night but allow for a sunlit room and a bit of charm during the day. There was also a large screen TV but without streaming capability. For the price and location, I’d book here again for a quick NYC stint. Worth noting: you have to pay in cash and pay for each night on that day instead of all at once when you check in.
