Historic Uptown 5br- Great for Groups!
Summary:
This is a new renovation of a 150 year old home in New Orleans. Crystal chandeliers and stainless steel appliances to go along with the original pine floors. Five bedrooms and two full baths will ensure you have plenty of space to spread out when you get home from a night on the town. Did I mention we are just three blocks from the historic St Charles Avenue with the streetcar which can whisk you to the French Quarter and downtown. Bars and restaurants just steps away!
The Space:
You are close to everything at this house- the french quarter, the CBD, the Superdome, the convention center. This is the perfect launching spot for a trip to New Orleans!
This is a brand new high end renovation with everything you need for a great weekend in New Orleans!
Close to:
Ponchartrain Hotel
Igor's
Brother's Chicken
Central City BBQ
Mais Arepas
Casa Borrega
AND MUCH MORE!!!
Guest Access:
You will have access to the entire place!
The Neighborhood:
Central City is located at the lower end of Uptown, just above the New Orleans Central Business District, on the "lakeside" of St. Charles Avenue. It has been vital in the city's brass band and Mardi Gras Indian traditions. The "Main Street" of Central City is Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, formerly known as the Dryades Street commercial district for over 100 years. It is a nationally accredited Main Street, as well as a member of the Louisiana Main Streets Network, as well as a Louisiana Cultural District. Central City is a designated National Register Historic District, and contains several individually landmarked buildings as well.
The Lower Garden District is famous for its parks, restaurants, and history!
The area was originally developed between 1832 and 1900 and is considered one of the best-preserved collections of historic mansions in the Southern United States. The 19th-century origins of the Garden District illustrate wealthy newcomers building opulent structures based upon the prosperity of New Orleans in that era.
This whole area was once a number of plantations, including the Livaudais Plantation. It was sold off in parcels to mainly wealthy Americans who did not want to live in the French Quarter with the Creoles. It became a part of the city of Lafayette in 1833, and was annexed by New Orleans in 1852. The district was laid out by New Orleans architect, planner, and surveyor Barthelemy Lafon.
Originally the area was developed with only a couple of houses per block, each surrounded by a large garden, giving the district its name. In the late 19th century, some of these large lots were subdivided, as uptown New Orleans became more urban. This has produced a pattern for much of the neighborhood: of any given block having a couple of early 19th-century mansions surrounded by "gingerbread"-decorated late Victorian period houses. Thus, the "Garden District" is now known for its architecture more than for its gardens per se.
Getting Around:
Walking distance to downtown, close to St Charles. Very quick Uber or Lyft to get you to the French Quarter!
With a walkability score of 89, there’s no need to rent a car for your stay. The streetcar line passes four blocks from the house to take you through the Garden District, Uptown, and the French Quarter. Connecting to other streetcar lines, you can also access City Park and the Marigny.
For everything else you can easily walk or take a short Lyft.
Other Things to Note:
If there’s anything – big or small – that we can do to make your stay better, please let us know. We’re constantly making improvements and welcome all suggestions :)
I manage several airbnb units in the area- if you think another unit may fit your needs better, feel free to take a look at my other listings:
