The church of Santi Giovanni e Reparata is a church of Lucca that is located in Piazza San Giovanni. The first seat of the bishops of the diocese, when the dignity of cathedral at the beginning of the eighth century was transferred to St. Martin remained its right to the baptismal font, and this made the relationship between the two sacred buildings always very close. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the church was destroyed by the Napoleonic government, deprived of its furnishings and destined to house the archives of the ancient Republic. In 1828 it was reopened to worship, but in a very changed situation. The present structure dates back to the reconstruction of the second half of the XII century, but its origins are much older.
