The COVID-19 pandemic may have changed how we travel, but it hasn't put the brakes on our eagerness for exploring. Here are a few tips on how to deal with travel's new challenges:

• Before booking anything, see if any travel restrictions or bans apply — in both your destination and origin. Get up-to-date information by reviewing government websites.
• When you go through airport screening, do not remove your face mask. You will be required to briefly lower it to confirm your identity. Travelers who refuse to wear a mask may be fined and denied entry.
• Avoid handing your boarding pass (paper or electronic) directly to a TSA officer. Instead, place your pass on the reader and then hold it up so the agent can inspect it.
• You're permitted to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your hand luggage. This will need to be taken out for X-ray scanning.
• Empty everything from your pockets, such as your wallet, phone and small change, and put them in your carry-on instead of into bins. This will minimize handling during the screening process.
• Transport any food items in a clear plastic bag and also put them in a screening bin. Separating food from your carry-on means it's less likely a TSA agent will need to touch and open your bag for inspection.
