No Basic Service For The Last Day
We rented the home from July 8-July 12, 2024- 2 families (4 adults & 3 teenagers). We loved the house with all the conveniences we paid for. However, on July 11, there was a power outage from 2-3 am in the morning till the next day when it was restored at ~10pm (19-20 hours without power).
In addition to lacking lights, AC, and electric appliances, we also had no running water. Basic services such as showers and flushing toilets were not available, which was quite an inconvenience. We contacted the host Giovanni right away and he relayed multiple communications during the day that the power was supposedly being restored shortly, but as mentioned, it was restored late in the evening at ~10pm.
That day we lost some food, and had to delay planned activities. Additionally, we couldn't take advantage of any of the facilities we paid for and our basic needs such as merely going to the bathroom were not met . Late in the afternoon, the host did offer to accomodate us with access to another apartment 15-20 minutes away for the 7 people to shower and use the facilities/toilets, but it did not fully redeem the inconvenience nor the cost.
We contacted the host on several occasions to inquire if we can have a refund for that day only - unfortunately the reply received was “it’s a force majeure outside his control”. He said they could provide an additional day for free, however we were scheduled to leave Friday and could not extend our stay. We are still waiting to hear back.
