centrally located accommodation

The hotel is located just next to the Tube station Russell Square. The rooms were clean and everything worked well.

Location

Very basic hostel level but the location is excellent, literally two steps from Piccadilly line underground from Heathrow. Lots of restaurants close by and good 24hr Tesco opposite. Clean but old premises, comfortable beds. Family room in the basement is great for 4-5 people and has full kitchen (old style).

Good location

Hotel was in a good location for what we needed. Staff member was very friendly. Only issues were the window did not lock and the shower did not work.

Not the best

This is not a hotel, it’s basically a room that was rented. There’s no service, no amenities, we took out our garbage after a few days. It’s hot and tiny for three people. It was a great location, and quiet. It’s cheaper than most “hotels” in London but there are reasons why it’s cheaper.

Pay less get less

The entire building is very tired, the carpets were threadbare, the floor boards creaked and the windows didn't shut properly. On the positive side, the wifi worked well and it was very convenient for restaurants and transport links.

Read other reviews of bed bugs and dirt and was concerned - stayed on top floor: it was clean, no trace of pests. The bathroom was a retro 80s set up, nothing to fault. You pay for what you get: the Russell is basic but ideal for seeing London. Stayed in far more expensive places that have been far worse.

Bed bugs

That's not a 3 star hotel. Zero stars.... the room was soooo small not like in the pictures In room number 6 I've been bitten by some bed bugs. The hotel is not recommended guys. Try to avoid it and dont try to save some money

Just above tube station, doesn't offer breakfast, laundryservice or others, but good food and stores are 1-3 minutes walk away and convenient selfservice laundrette 5 minutes walk from hotel. Hotel is in an old building and it shows, but if all you need is a tiny shower and place to lay your head while exploring the city, this is your place. Affordable, nothing fancy, but does it's trick. We had room number 12 in top floor (no elevator, narrow stairs). No bedbugs found.

Location excellent. Attractive area, lots of shops, cafes, restaurants. V central and tube station next door. Hotel rather run down and dated, although clean. Room small and basic but fine for me. Be aware that the en suite only has a sink and shower, no loo. I knew this before booking but had expected the toilet to be just down the corridor. It was TWO floors down from my room. Also, the window did little to block out the street noise.

Over promised but under delivered.

The room was much smaller than expected,3 people in it would have been impossible. There was nowhere to hang clothes. Very basic funishing and decorations. No one serviced the room in the 3 days, not even to empty waste bin.

Do Not stay here. For £280 I can’t swing a cat in the room. The bed and pillows are hard and only get one. The noise is horrendous in the hotel with people walking up and down the stairs most of the night. I really do No recommend this hotel my son was so upset to stay in this hotel because he didn’t also didn’t like it.

Die Diskrepanz zwischen der Präsentation im Netz und der Realität ist eine Unverschämtheit. Wir haben das Zimmer nicht bezogen. Das wirft auch ein ganz schlechtes Licht auf Expedia.

Got a bathroom not worth calling a bathroom

I rented a room with a bathroom. I got a room with a shower, no toilet was 2 flights down. Turns out the shower had no hot water either. Turning the hot water tap on for 10 mins, got the water to barely warmer than the cold tap after 2 minutes and that is where it stayed for the next 8 minutes.

The property was not what it appeared to be in photos, and there was a bad odor that was helped by opening the window and blowing the fan. Toilet seat was broken and the overhead light failed to illuminate at times.

This was the worst hotel I ever stayed, for £200 for 2 nights I had nothing in the room, no kettle to, no tea or coffee, no breakfast. Even it was a 3 star hotel it had to have all this, I expected. When I asked the owner for the kettle, he gave me a broken one, I had to ask for another. I don't like asking. For £200 I should have booked a better hotel.
