Great place

We had a great stay at the Childwall Abbey Hotel. We stayed there as we were going to Anfield. It was only £12 for a taxi to the ground. Hotel was clean, tidy and staff were lovely. Especially Steven who gave us great tips on Beatles places to visit. Including Strawberry Fields and Lennons house which is 5mins away from Hotel. Will go back if we are lucky enough to get more football tickets.

This place was really nice and quiet. The staff and the people in the area, in general, were very nice. The room is pretty basic and there was not a microwave or fridge. But it was good for a 2 night stay.

Very good

Check in was a bit of a task but this was probably due to staff being tied up with a funeral / wake that was in progress at the time. Room was clean, bed was super big and super comfy. Very pleasant pub with decent beer and value for money food. Will definitely return

Good.

One night stay. It's a pub with rooms above, set in a hamlet on the edge of an established housing estate. Quite noisy when we arrived - a Saturday - but had quietened down by the time we went to our room. Positives: good variety of food, the usual pub fare, but tasty and was just what we wanted. Excellent wifi. Very comfortable bed. Nice full English in the morning. Downsides? Rooms are upstairs with no lift, so possibly not for those with a mobility problem. The toilets seemed to have a mulcher, so were noisy, but not a big issue. The main problem was ventilation: the window opening was very small and it being mid-August it was very warm and stuffy. There was a plug-in fan but it was wee and was too loud to use. That said I slept well although my wife struggled with the heat. Overall a decent stay, handy for Liverpool you don't want to stay in the city.

I was woken up at around 4:30AM by a couple of people who sounded like staff (though possibly were other guests) banging around and talking very loudly outside my window. The breakfast was disappointing. My napkin arrived soggy having been sitting in I guess some rain-water-filled basket that was never poured out. Very dry veggie sausages and I thought 2 "flat top" mushrooms meant portobello, but I received only a handful of button... No one came to ask how it was or I would have told them. The inn chain uses some weird surveillance-y data tracking when booking and even when just trying to use their WiFi. Some patrons in the pub/event space were polite, others seemed provincial, judgy of people from elsewhere. It was unfortunate the cable didn't have Premier League football channels. The abbey was nice and the forest nearby is fine. The abbey seems to house some sort of evangelical minister talking about damnation though. Staff not taking COVID prevention measures like masking and the room window only opened a bit.

Very disappointing

This “hotel” is actually a very popular (and busy) pub-restaurant, with a few bedrooms upstairs. We paid £80 for one night in a suburb, so is very over-priced. Like so many hospitality venues currently, it is understaffed, and there is no staff member onsite during the night. The facility was generally dusty and looking tired, even though the bedrooms are fairly new. But they have noisy macerator pumps for the ensuite basin and WC, which has a poor flush and no toilet brush to compensate. The noise woke us during the night several times (we could also hear another room). The nice shower did not have any shelf to store shampoo etc and stupid American style small bath towels were supplied. For a hotel of this price, we would expect (from experience) tissues, shower cap and a safe, but none were there. One of our curtains was hanging off its rail and both were difficult to open and close. Until the streetlights went off at midnight, our room was not in darkness. For our clothes, there were no shelves or drawers, just hanging space. We had to live out of our suitcase, which had to be on the floor as there was nowhere else for it. Breakfast was served and minimal, nothing was laid out buffet style. There was no fruit available. All the rooms are up steep stairs, so there is no Accessibility. The good, attached car park is shown as having CCTV – but in the absence of anybody to monitor it overnight, this is useless. I would rate this hotel no more than 2-stars in the usual scale.

We stayed on Saturday 23rd in Room 7. Every time you used the tap or flushed the toilet there was a epically loud noise of the system drawing the water. This not being bad enough when we got up in the morning for our 8am departure, we ran the shower for 30mins and it never got hot!!! We tried turning up passed the 38oC mark and noting, we tried the opposite way a still nothing. This meant our onward travel was showerless!!! Last night, the advertised closing time was 23:00 for the bar downstairs but the party night kept going until at least midnight! Then the banging closed of every fire door. It was torture!!!

Very disappointing

The hotel was in a very nice location for an urban venue and the staff was friendly but that is the best one can say. The room was sweltering both nights even though the weather cooled during the second day. There was no servicing of the room. Worst of all the carb-heavy menu had nothing to offer my wife who is coeliac.

Pub great but unfortunately my room wasn’t.

I stay in the single room. Mattress was broke. And dipped in the middle. I had an awful night sleep. Dark hairs still in the shower, not as clean as previous stays. I’ve stayed before and it’s been fine but this time unfortunately wasn’t great. I also had to miss out on breakfast, usually it’s 730am but when I went to go down at 730am there was a sign saying breakfast at 8am. But I had to leave at 8am. Overall a bit of a shame, the pub was great though, I had a lovely dinner and staff were fab.
