The staff were friendly and the parking was free. Those were the best parts of our stay. The room was more outdated and dingy than I was expecting. I think some of the rooms here have been updated and others have not. Ours was definitely not. We were in a superior room with multiple beds. I would not recommend selecting this room. I could have dealt With it being outdated but it felt musty. Anytime we turned on the AC the smell of sulfur was overwhelming. I do understand Rotorua has a smell in general but in the room with the AC on it was unbearable. I had a headache and my eyes were burning. My husband was coughing. We did notify staff and they said some rooms have a worse smell than others. They offered to change our rooms for a fee, which I guess is a good aspect. I will probably never stay in Rotorua again but if you do I would recommend a different room at this hotel or just a different hotel.

Exceptional. We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at Country Villa Estate. Danny and Mabel were fabulous hosts from the moment we arrived. We were met with a warm welcome before being shown to our very comfortable room which was beautifully decorated and with everything we needed for our stay. Breakfast was superb with different options each day. Mabel is a true artist with her delicious breakfast offerings. Beautiful gardens, comfortable spaces to relax, a truly unique experience.

The room and entire facility was excellent. Grace was so nice to my wife and I. She was very helpful with our stay, our meals and with sites to see.

We really appreciated the historic value of this property. The story of the hotel is fascinating! The location was also central with easy walking access to cafes, restaurants, and the lakefront. The hotel staff were kind. We used Prince’s Gate as our launching point in Rotorua for three days to experience the volcanic areas of NZ. This included a sea plane flight with Volcanic Air, a visit to the free foot baths nearby the hotel, a drive to see Mt Doom in Tongariru National Park, and walks through wai o taupo and waimangu. The Prince’s Gate served as a good centralized location. We also appreciates the free parking right around the corner from the hotel.
