The Balenbouche Estate House, built in the mid 1800's, is a family home and living museum. This unique historic home, which was once part of a sugarcane plantation, is now a celebrated guest house for nature lovers locally and internationally, as well as a retreat venue, organic farm and heritage site. Six additional guest cottages are scattered throughout the grounds. The plantation house offers three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a beautiful wrap around veranda, and a dining and living room looking out onto the grounds. The attached staffed kitchen provides guests with daily tailor made meals, and daily maid service is included.
The sprawling, 70-acre grounds feature ancient trees, lush tropical vegetation, fruit orchards, pastures, a yoga barn and 18th-century sugar mill with foot paths leading to wild beaches. Weddings, group retreats, artisan workshops, yoga and wellness activities, community festivals, photo shoots and dinner parties regularly take place here.
What makes Balenbouche Estate much loved is its simple, rustic charm where the focus is on sustainability, health and well-being.
The plantation house is available for exclusive rental only at select times of the year, from December to April. The rest of the year it is lived in by the Lawaetz family, owners and caretakers of the property for the past 40 years.
