Room was really nice, as were bar and breakfast areas. Only downside was the room wasn’t at all soundproof so was woken early by a kitchen door slamming.
Every aspect of the Gateway was outstanding. The service and food was amazing and rooms were spotless. The accomodation sits in a very idealic spot and views are outstanding. We had dinner one night and it was all fabulous no complaints. If i returned we would request a room on 1st floor, as we were up top and stairs got slightly steep near top. Knees wont take it these days!! But overall we had fab, comfortable few days away. Oh and the government restriction measures were managed excellently.

Stay at Gateway Inn - 02.10.20
We arrived fairly late about 9.20 last night, after a 5 hour drive. The Bar lady served us and advised the we had to vacate the bar area by 10pm.
At 9.55 a surly mam came over and told us we had to go and get our bags out of the car as he was locking the door at 10pm. He then stood there whilst we got our bags.
I have stayed in hotels for 40 years now, and this was the rudest person I have ever met. A place to avoid

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
I had a short overnight stay at the Gateway Inn on the way back to London. Check in was easy, and I had a room on the top floor with wood floors, comfortable bed, tv and closet. The room was generally clean and well kept, except for a bit of black mold in the bathroom and on the windows. The property was quiet and I slept well! The bar/restaurant area was well maintained and matches the pictures online but I didn't have an opportunity to try the food. Breakfast was good. Parking available on site.
Amazing service, comfortable room, very relaxed. The breakfast and evening meal was very tasty!! The staff were very hardworking and David especially was very helpful went out of his way to make our stay as enjoyable as it was. Thank you !!
We had a nice one-night stay in the Gateway Inn. The room was nice and cosy with some points to criticize: mold in window frame, bathroom extractor fan did not work (possible source for mold), some mold in shower, water pressure extremely low (almost down to zero) when water was used by others as well, rooms very clairaudient. Would recommend it for short stays but not so much for a longer vacation.
We had dinner at the pub in the evening when we arrived which was decent (fish and chips - mushed peas with mint are strange though). Breakfast cooked to order in the morning was very good with a nice view into nature.
All in all a quite nice place to stay with some room for improvement!

Absolutely fabulous stay, greeted at checkin with a warm welcome and room was spotless and warm. Our evening meal was faultless and Dave who served us was entertaining and made our experience unforgettable. Will absolutely stay again fantastic.
We did not have a good night sleep the bed was not good. We had a great meal however. The location wasn't good either, too far out of town and no where to walk safely. Staff were good and Bar and Restaurant good. We w ere on the top floor and the stairs were really steep.
A mix up on arrival, the superior room we had booked was not available on our first night, David moved us into the correct room on day 2, refunded us the difference for the first night and presented us with a complimentary bottle of wine to apologize for the inconvenience. We have stayed here before and really love the hotel the breakfast is delicious, the superior rooms have large comfortable beds and the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. There is a bit of maintenance needed in the bathrooms, the shower floor drains are all loose, however there is great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The hotel is extremely well situated for sightseeing in Lake District. When we are next in the area, we will definitely stay at the Gateway Inn again.
