The COVID-19 pandemic may have changed the way we travel, but it hasn't done away with our zest for exploring. Here are some tips on how to handle the new challenges of traveling:

• Research the restrictions and rules in both your destination and origin. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so check before you lock in your flight.
• When you go through airport checkpoints, do not remove your face mask. You will be required to briefly lower it for identification purposes. Those who refuse to wear a mask may face civil penalties and may also be denied boarding.
• Rather than handing a TSA employee your boarding pass, place it directly on the reader yourself. Once that's done, hold it up for inspection.
• TSA now allows passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on baggage. This will need to be removed from your bag at the X-ray machine for scanning.
• To minimize handling during the screening process, place personal items such as your phone, coins and keys into your carry-on rather than into the bins.
• If you're planning to take food on the plane, place it in a clear plastic bag and then into a scanning bin. This lessens the likelihood that a TSA agent will need to handle your food container or carry-on bag for closer inspection.
