"My daughter and I came here on a birthday trip and we loved it. When staying here, please ask for the "Shinkan" which is still retro vibes but newer than the older wing. We were first placed in the older part where the room was small and showed clear signs of aging. However, I asked for an upgrade and with immediate friendliness and just a little increase in rate (about 8,000 yen) we were moved to a huge two room Japanese style suite with a lovely view of the lake. The onsen water is salty because of the nearby ocean and leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized. They had great amenities in the room and fresh flowers decorating the hallway and interior in a lovely way. When I called before arrival to check on our reservation, the staff were super polite and did not make me feel embarrassed about not having perfect pronunciation in Japanese. When we arrived we mentioned that it was a birthday trip for both of us and that my daughter is vegetarian (literally in passing). There was a delicious udon shop nearby where we ate dinner. The futon was comfortable and we had a great sleep. Low and behold at the breakfast the next morning, they had made my daughter's set vegetarian without us even asking, the breakfast salmon and tomato dishes were some of the best Japanese morning food I've had (and I've been here 38 years) and as we checked out they surprised us with a beautiful little birthday bouquet. An older, slightly run down building, with lovely food & amazing service."
