"We stayed two nights mid week in mid May. Check-in was simple with friendly staff. We chose the valet parking, which was also convenient and cost a few dollars more per day than self parking. The room was clean with a "beach" feel. Comfortable but not spectacular. We splurged and booked a room with a small balcony overlooking the bay, bridge, and lighthouse, which was nice. The wood on the balcony could have used a cleaning or refinishing, and when the AC unit was blowing it was very loud on the balcony. The grounds were nice but there were some areas on the walkway where supplies and stuff were stacked up against the building. There's a neat lighthouse on the end of the island. The architecture of the resort itself is sort of outdated modern. Not much to look at. They have a coffee shop with good coffee and expensive muffins and a 15 dollar breakfast sandwich (which was very good). There's a bar with plentiful outdoor waterfront seating and a nice restaurant. A glass of wine was $16. The resort is on an island walkable to downtown Newport. They also have a free and convenient shuttle to town. Our room bill came to over $1500 for two nights. This included all sorts of resort fees, parking fees, etc. I would have been fine with all the minor shortcomings if this place wasn't so darned expensive. It was nice, but for that kind of money you expect a bit more. If we return to Newport we'll stay at a different hotel for half the price. "

"This was my first time staying in Newport and overall I had a good experience at The Wayfinder. Parking was plentiful and easy, and upon arrival the welcome from the staff at the front desk was super friendly. The hotel was quite clean, a little unique and funky (in a good way), and the staff were super nice and friendly. The room I was in was comfortable overall - I especially appreciated the local bath products. My only note is that the design elements (at least for my type of room) could use some work - I stayed by myself and felt that storage for just my things was a bit minimal. There were no drawers (despite ample space in the room for them) and the only place to put clothes was a strangely placed rack on a side of a wall. Storage would be tight for two, let alone a more occupied room. Given the size of the rooms, I found that strange. The room also was surprisingly poorly lit and could have used 1-2 extra lamps. Easy fixes that would enhance the in-room experience. The hotel is a bit outside of the downtown area - but that wasn't an issue for me, and they offered a shuttle. Overall enjoyed my stay. Staff was friendly, rooms were quite clean (the gym's equipment was pretty new and clean too, as a bonus), satisfied my needs. I also went pre-pool season, but I imagine that would be nice. In-room Keurig was a plus too. I would just plan for a bit of a wonky in-room storage situation, which I hope they can remedy (because again, the rooms were sizable)."

"Capstan Cottage blends modern class with nautical coastal comfort in a way that is so tasteful you feel both laid back and a bit spoiled. You get the comforts of home paired with the high-end upgrades you want on vacation. Perfectly located near a variety of attractions, it is ideal for travelers of all ages, interests and abilities. The neighborhood is peaceful, safe and friendly (the neighbors wave as you pass by). The hosts were excellent communicators. Thanks to their proactive approach (and the well-lit walkway), late check-in was a breeze. Clean Curated Coastal ComfortsInside, the home instantly felt welcoming. The fireplace, along with the open floor plan and the coastal/nautical decor, made the living room and kitchen feel spacious. On the counter was a nice welcome basket with water, wine, and snacks. Alongside that was a very helpful info binder full of local tips. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the complimentary K-Cups, creamers, and sugar were a NICE TOUCH! All the rooms were spotless and echoed the coastal theme. I enjoyed the large shower and water pressure, while my girlfriend was impressed by how the mermaid motif was used, keeping on theme but elevated. The Standout Feature THE BED!!! The bed was THE STANDOUT feature! I had the best sleep I’ve had in years. I ordered a new mattress topper for home before we even checked out.Multifunctional Finished BasementThe finished basement was impressive, offering another sitting area, an electric fireplace, a TV, and board games. The couch pulls out to a bed, so this area could easily accommodate another couple or children. There was a laundry room and another full bathroom on this level. Having a kitchen table and a second Keurig in the basement is a masterclass in guest hospitality—no need to juggle hot coffee on the stairs.Unbeatable LocationJust a short drive to downtown Jamestown, the relaxed little coastal village with locally owned shops, bakery/cafés, and restaurants. Close to Newport, Narragansett and Wickford Village- a favorite spot of ours. If you’re looking for a quiet reading spot, a yard for kids to play, a fire pit to roast marshmallows, or a home base to explore the multitude of local attractions, I highly recommend Capstan Cottage!Top-Tier ExperienceIt’s rare to find hosts who prioritize the guest’s experience and anticipate every logistical need this effectively. They considered everything, making for the most enjoyable getaway possible."
