"A lovely stay in a beautiful part of the world. We stayed in one of the accessible rooms, so can’t comment on the other accommodation, but our room was clean, if a little dated.
The real positives were the staff, genuinely lovely and welcoming – along with excellent food and a great selection of local beers on tap. We also enjoyed chatting with some fellow guests who were repeat visitors, which says a lot about the place.

"Beautiful property in a secluded setting but not too far a drive from Hexham and Corebridge. Great walks too nearby if you have dogs. Would definitely stay again."

"All staff were helpful and friendly.
This was our second visit to the Pheasant Inn and both were very enjoyable with comfortable warm rooms, tasty food at breakfast and dinner and most enjoyable atmosphere in the bar mainly due to all the staff engaging with all customers and their service was exceptional "

"On arrival the hotel was closed, a person answered the door and informed us the public areas of the hotel was closed. She said some people had been informed but we had received no information. Her primary concern was for us to make the payment. Then she told us if there was no staff in we should go across the road to the County Hotel. Somewhat reluctantly she helped us with a case and showed us the room. The room was cold and the heating hadn’t been switched on. We asked her help but she was unsure of how to rectify it.
In the toilet the towel rack was cold. When we came back at night we had to open the locked front door. The place was mostly in the dark and empty
Next day we discovered that the extractor fan in the windowless bathroom did not work, the cleaner admired it was out of order and wouldn’t be repaired for several days. However she moved us to another room which was an improvement. The chain fell off the.blind when we tried to close it.
We had to go to theCounty Hotel each morning for breakfast. On the morning of our departure one of the managers enquired about our stay. She said there were two staff members with a dog living in premises in the Coach and Horses hotel but we didn’t see them. No attempt was made to contact us.
The place in the evening was deserted and we did not feel safe.
Overall it was a very stressful experience especially as I am à recovering cancer patient.
We think we should receive a refund of at least 15% of £501.

"Fabulous stay, spotlessly clean room, comfortable bed and lovely staff. Quite noisy as I was in a room facing the main road but I’m not used to the sound of traffic so probably wouldn’t matter to most people! All in all would highly recommend."
"We stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast on the morning of departure. Anyone with mobility issues needs to be careful about which room they book, of those in the castle I think that there are a couple on the first floor, accessed by a fairly grand staircase. The rest require a climb up a narrow and steep spiral staircase. The room we stayed was up said spiral staircase and was spacious and clean, well furnished and with a large en-suite. The lady on reception provided a great welcome and helped during our stay, special mention also goes to the lady who gave us and other guests a castle tour. In terms of dining we found a limited menu and an incapacity to vary it in the slightest. Also the staff were less than attentive."
"Unique hotel built in 1422. Lots of history. The owner was extremely helpful, courteous and regaled us with stories about the place. A very homey feeling. Loved it."
"Nice hotel with friendly staff
Busy pub & restaurant- great breakfast included in the cost of the stay
Beautiful village with lots of history
Lots of dogs staying & visiting with diners
No lift (elevator) but they carried my bags up the stairs for me so that wasn't an issue
They give you a key to the outer door so if you're out late (like I was for a wedding in a nearby location), you just hold a key fob to the door & you have 24 hour access
They kept my bags free of charge so I could stroll along the river Tyne after checkout & had a couch for me to relax on as I waited for my train - gave me free wifi to upload my trip pictures too
Great place to visit"
"Very friendly staff. Lovely location and setting. Some areas of the hotel seemed to be unused/undergoing renovation ( garden and ? Indoor pool area.)Not that this mattered to us but it gives an air of neglect. Our room was perfectly clean and very comfortable. Some public areas need a bit of updating. Breakfast was lovely. Our bar meal was adequate. Staff were very helpful"
