“Vrijdagsmarkt” or Friday Market Square with the statue of Jacob van Artevelde. The Flemish leader Jacob van Artevelde managed to undo the boycott of English wool imports during the Hundred Years’ War between England and France in the 14th century. The textiles industry in Ghent was revived and Artevelde was hailed a hero. In 1345 he was murdered during a riot. Since 1863 his statue has been pointing to England. #Ghent #History

"Friendly welcome. Efficient and simple. Quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable. We travelled as a family of four, and had a lot of space in our room. The central location meant everything was easily walkable. We parked at Interparking Gent - Centre one street away."
