Spirit Hotel Gran Bilbao

10/10 Excellent

"The property has a lot to offer for solo travellers like myself. Very friendly and helpful staff, and language was no problem even with minimal Spanish ability. Large comfortable room, and I've never experienced such a huge bathroom, large walk-in shower included. Excellent bar in lobby for drinks and snacks, plus restaurant with good but limited menu items (breakfast buffet is extra charge). Plentiful underground gated parking, bus stop directly outside. Taxi to/from airport quick and reasonable (set prices). Attractions (Old Town, museums) not far, but recommend transport rather than walking as the hotel sits atop a steep incline (staff can help with negotiating transport). In sum, highly recommend the Spirit!"

"Hotel is conveniently located at walking distance from old town (around 10 minutes). Parking is a block away and they also have parking at basement though is more expensive to park in the hotel. They have a restaurant but options for lunch or dinner are very limited and they have only 1 staff serving. Breakfast is better with many options. We ate something the night we arrived and also had breakfast the following day. We traveled with kids and they are in that age they are picky eaters so we ended up having breakfast outside the hotel the 2nd day. It was cheaper to eat breakfast outside. Rooms are spacious, clean, and some have small stairs inside. The reception is in the 2nd level which was weird but ok. Ground level has a bike rental parked inside, a lobby and elevators. We enjoyed our stay and liked the hotel."

"The room was clean but small. Suitable for a single night stay and close to the airport. All staff very friendly - especially the shuttle bus drivers. Great lobby with lounges, chairs, tv and refreshments. Don’t bother with the little restaurant beside the hotel - food and staff not great. Would recommend for a quick stay before flying."

"We have upgraded to the Level each time we have stayed at the Melia. While the facility was very nice the amenities were lacking. Very little food options other than salty snacks. All of the other Melia’s Level have offered much more from a food perspective. While the room upgrade was very nice the overall experience was lacking due to the Level amenities."

"We stayed in the Petit Palace as a base for exploring Bilbao and the region and very pleased with the choice. The location is fantastic, on the edge of the old town. There is a train/metro station a couple of minutes away and it's a pleasant 25 minute riverside stroll to the Guggenheim. The building is old but the rooms have been well modernised with very good bathroom/shower. The staff are all helpful and friendly, we had the daily breakfast which was a good way to start the day. Our room faced the road but noise wasn't an issue and we even had a small balcony. For a city break base would definitely recommend."
