"Sabah hotel was clean and confortable. The staff was friendly the food was tasty. I ejoyed a relaxing massage and enjoyed the appearance of a large water monitor at the pool. I also appreciate that my western style bathing suit was foundto be acceptable attire. Unfortunately, though I was looking forward to the lamb barbecue on Saturday that very day when I asked about the extra activity near the pool, the staff told me that the barbecue was cancelled and the kitchen was closed to to a wedding event scheduled at the hotel. It would have been ice to be reffered to another restaurant rather thankust be be told yhat the desert and alcohol bar would be open. "

"Staff are exceptional - friendly, kind, helpful. There's nothing fancy about the place, but nothing fancy is needed, given the surroundings. I especially enjoyed my balcony with the fan. Breakfast is decent and it's only a 20 min walk to the orangutan rehab centre and 5 mins to the rainforest discovery centre."

"It's a piece of luxury in an interesting place - don't let the exterior building fool you. You can be walking into another world in Sandakan and Hotel Sandakan is a sanctuary amongst it. The staff emulate the local Sabahan hospitality and friendliness, I will stay again next time."

We were so impressed with the friendliness of the staff, the way Sepilok invites you into their culture and the way the lodge was built with the environment in mind. "

"Pros are proximity to the airport, and available free shuttle to the airport as well. Otherwise an average 2 star hotel. Cons Breakfast is a buffet style with Rice, Noodles and Vegetables, and Chicken. Eggs are boiled but almost RAW. You can toast your own bread with butter and jelly. Coffee is ok. The rooms are not very clean. Ours was a Non-smoking on the 4th floor, but it smelled like cigarettes. There is Hot water in the shower. Only one half used roll of toilet paper was available. You get bath towels, but no face or hand towels are available. The neighborhood around stinks like sewer but you can find a few places to eat. Overall the place is convenient for an overnight stay before your flight. "
