Coba Archaeological Site

One of the best sites on the peninsula. The pyramid 2km from the entrance is well worth climbing, but this year may be your last chance before it is permanently closed.

We drove a rental car about an hour from Tulum. Paying a guide $35 was well worth it to learn about the history of the Mayan culture and people.

Wear comfy shoes because this is a huge ancient city. Don't be afraid to go up the pyramid. It's actually great to look at the jungle from above. You must climb 42 floors, on a steep incline, in the heat and humidity of the jungle. Bring water in a refillable container. Although it feels like a workout, it's not for superhumans. Anybody can do it at their pace, even obese, and old people. Just take your time and be mindful that you are sharing the stairs with others that want to go faster. Get there early.

Bring water shoes! And you bike 1.2 miles to the ruins, so be prepared to bike. It was flat and easy, but still. Dinner is at 6pm (we did the Sunset Tour), so eat lunch. Also, climbing the ruins was not bad for me and my wife, but not advised for small children or older folk.

Quite a large site and we recommend hiring the bicycle or pedicab which is very cost effective. it is also quite shady so is pleasing to visit on a hot days.
