** see below: property changed hands shortly before our stay
We spent a week at the “Cottage” at Passaconaway in August. There were 11 of us, two 3-generation families for an annual reunion. The house and grounds are wonderful with plenty of spaces to gather together and lots of places for quiet reading, or napping, etc. There is a private (stone) beach down a short path from the house.
The location is great — walking distance to the nearest public beach We walked and biked to York where there is a larger sand beach, restaurants and shops. Lobster is available prepared in every possible way everywhere! We also cooked home several nights in the large kitchen. Ogunquit and Kennebunkport are nice side trips.
We booked the property the prior January, but the house changed hands about a month before our arrival, so we ended up dealing with different owners than we had booked with. Unfortunately, this meant the the new owners, with a calendar 100% full of pre-booked renters from the previous owner, did not have time or opportunity to make repairs and needed improvements at the property. The prior owners had obviously left the property in less than ideal condition. The new owners were, however, kindly able to deal as much as possible with issues that presented themselves and very receptive to our concerns and suggestions for things needing attention.
Coming from California, we were looking for a typical Maine Coast vacation, which we absolutely had. Though the house itself is large and quite grand, the area and available activities.
We look forward to seeing the improvements when the work is finished and the website more accurately reflects the property.
Thanks Patrick! Keep us posted.
