"The building is the oldest hotel in England so you can't expect it to be all shiny and gleaming. But it is very clean, slightly quirky and off shape and the floors were solid but uneven at times. This just added to the charm for us though as we live in a 90yr old house so it didn't surprise us. The room was very clean, the bathroom was nicely refurbished and came with nice toiletries provided. The bed was slightly firm but that's a personal preference so we can't complain about that. Checked in early as our room was ready. Alistair on reception was fantastic, funny little tales and lots of local information to help us settle in. The were no evening meals being served so we ate next door and were given a 20% discount voucher to do so which is a nice touch. We had the fish and chips in Darwins bar, huge portion and well cooked. Breakfast was excellent and comes with a nice view over the Pavilion Gardens if you get the right table. Nice hotel. Not too expensive and great for the one night we stayed"

"Easily accessible, warm and friendly greeting. Beautiful building and room was clean, comfy and perfectly fit for purpose. Didn't go down for breakfast so cannot feed back on that but a fabulous comfy stay overnight for an incredible price! Will definitely stay again and look into more hostels around the Country. "3 night stay over Easter. Pub was clean and comfortable although bed mattress was very firm which meant disturbed sleep for stay. Owners very welcoming. Breakfast was 8-9am which I felt was a little early as we usually like to have a lazy wake up without having to have alarm on so wasnt as relaxing as we would have liked. Breakfast was good but simple so would not have wanted to stay any longer. 1 or 2 nights at the most. No fruit or alternatives and not asked if we preferred eggs cooked differently. Room info said to ask for more tea bags etc but not toiletries so felt that was a little odd for a 3 night stay. Fortunately we had some of our own so what was there was enough for one of us. Lighting in room though was poor as one ceiling light which was dim and a tiny bedside lamp which was no good for reading. Good base for walks in the Dales so overall recommended for exploring. Was pleasantly surprised of the local village of Hartington. "
