The COVID-19 outbreak may have changed the way we travel, but it hasn't shut down our enthusiasm for exploring. Here are some tips on how to tackle travel's new challenges:

• Before booking anything, check if any travel bans or restrictions apply — in both your origin and destination. Get up-to-date information by checking government travel advisories.
• When you go through airport screening, do not remove your face mask. You will be asked to briefly lower it for identification purposes. Passengers who refuse to wear a face mask may face civil penalties and may also be escorted from the building.
• Avoid handing your boarding pass (paper or electronic) directly to a TSA officer. Instead, position your pass on the scanner and then hold it up to allow the agent to visually inspect it.
• TSA now allows passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on baggage. This will need to be removed from your bag for screening.
• Place any personal items (phone, keys and wallet) in your carry-on rather than a bin to reduce handling during screening.
• Transport all food items in a clear plastic bag and also place them in a screening bin. Keeping your food separate from your carry-on makes it less likely that a TSA officer will need to open and touch your bag for inspection.
