"A very nice, comfortable, friendly and well run guest house. We had a double bed room with a great view over the marina and bay area. Easy access to the harbour area, shops, pubs etc. Very good freshly cooked breakfast, with a good choice of cereals, yoghurt etc. Highly recommend for a stay of any length. Free parking, at a nearby (150yds) using a permit that you pick up from guest house before parking (you can drop off luggage outside house, before parking) "

"We were a little concerned about the cleanliness of this property before we booked due to previous reviews but we contacted the company and were reassured all was in hand. This indeed was the case as the cleanliness was more than adequate. The view from the living area is amazing and light with triple aspect 2nd to none. The 3 of us were very comfortable, great beds and bedding and towels of a good quality. The location of the property is fantastic - you couldn’t get better! There was no visitor book so couldn’t leave any tips which was a shame. Overall lovely property."

"Despite the complex instructions to find the cottage, it was fairly easy. (A quick look beforehand on Google Street View helped!) Found it best to park the car first in the Freshwater car park as you exit the harbour up the hill. This is a long stay car park costing approx. (August 2024) £10 for 24hrs. It's worth buying a permit for the week as it is valid in other car parks in the whole of Torbay too for when you trip out. It's an easy flat walk from here (and you may get a glimpse of seals close to shore) back to the harbour and the cottage is accessed via a flight of steps on the street corner. It's a charming, tiny cottage with everything you need, including wifi. A word of caution - the stairs are tricky and the door frames very low! I sliced some skin off the top of my head on one of them! As the stairs are spiral, it's best to come down the last steps backward, like a ladder. The first floor contains the bedrooms and bathroom. The top floor is the living space with an amazing view of the harbour but again be careful when taking up cups of tea due to the stairs. Having said that, we soon got the hang of it! All in all, it's an excellent home-from-home with plenty of nearby places to eat and shop, including supermarkets."

"The rooms were freezing and when we informed the manager we were told that the heating was broken. It was about 3 degrees outside that night and they didn’t even attempt to give us an electric heater or anything."

"This is by far the best place we have stayed! It's perfectly located with stunning views of the harbour, we had an incredible balcony room with breathtaking views that made our 1st Wedding Anniversary trip really special. The private parking was such a bonus. Such attention to detail in everything, we came away with things we want to buy for our own home to make it more like Beacon House. Now the breakfast, Oh my god the breakfast, every mouthful was just exquisite, from the freshly squeezed juice to the homemade french style baked beans. We've never had yoghurt with fruit and nuts like Beacon House do yoghurt. We made food noises with each mouthful! The hosts were the friendliest we've ever known and made us so welcome. We were so sad we only had 2 nights there. Well definitely be back!"

"Great little find. All you need in a room plus all the extras being available if needed. View is lovely - straight out on the harbour and able to watch the boats etc. Easy walk into town and off round the headland. Parking wasn’t easy but ok - would be harder in high season but there are car parks. Lots to do in the area too."
