The Firefly Trail is a developing 39-mile, multi-use rail-trail in Northeast Georgia that will connect Athens-Clarke, Oglethorpe, and Greene counties, spanning from Athens to Union Point. The trail converts an abandoned 1880s railroad corridor into a recreational path. Designed for pedestrians and bicyclists, the paved trail follows the historic Athens Branch of the Georgia Railroad, offering a safe, scenic path through towns like Winterville, Maxeys, and Crawford. A similar experience to the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville, SC.
