"A Room with a View, But Lacking Comfort ​We booked The Tower Hotel by Thistle for a double celebration: my wife’s 40th birthday and our six-year-old daughter’s first trip to London. While the location provided unforgettable memories, the hotel itself is heavily dated. ​The Positives: ​Views & Location: The absolute highlight is the unbeatable location and the breathtaking view of Tower Bridge from our window. ​Generous Space: Our family room was surprisingly large for the city centre. ​Comfort for Children: The pull-out bed for our daughter was a full double, which she found incredibly comfortable. ​Service: The staff were genuinely friendly. ​The Negatives: ​Stifling Temperatures: The room was far too warm, as the air conditioning is centrally locked at 25°C. When we queried this, reception simply handed us a plug-in fan. ​Poor Sleep Quality: Sleep was further hampered by an uncomfortable main bed and hopelessly flat pillows. ​Lack of Plugs: There are zero plug sockets near the bed for charging devices. ​Archaic Bathrooms: The bathroom desperately needs modernising. It features separate hot and cold taps rather than a mixer, and an old-fashioned rubber plug on a chain. ​The Verdict: If you book purely for the iconic views, spacious rooms, and brilliant location, it delivers. However, if you value a good night's sleep and modern comforts, this property leaves a lot to be desired."

"Easy check in, nice room, comfortable bed and pillows, lovely shower and complementary Dove shampoo and body wash, staff so welcoming and friendly, only a 7min walk to abba arena and a 5 minute walk to westfield shopping complex"

"Hot tub was great, room was clean but very small, wet room wasn’t ideal in layout - shower by the door, so if you wanted to use the toilet or sink, you had to get wet feet to do so. Lacking in basic amenities such as a kettle and water (yes there are hot drink stations on each floor, but these are hospital canteen style, not 4 star style). The AC was noisy and temperamental. Curtains didn’t do a good job of blocking out morning sun either. Food wise, dinner was lovely which made up for the overall stay, and breakfast was decent - but upon checking our card statement, we’ve been double charged for a single coffee ordered so it just sums up the stay really: looks far better online than in real life, and would definitely not be worth paying the ‘regular’ price (we got a great deal on Travel Tuesday, but having checked the prices for alternative days, we actually laughed out loud at the audacity to charge £400 a night!), "

"Very spacious and functional rooms"

"The rooms are very well proportioned with beautiful period features, high ceilings and painted to a very high standard. Having a spacious modern and contemporary kitchen, dining and lounge area and with an extra TV made the experience feel really homely. Excellent value for money as well. The reception staff were very friendly and being located near Bethel Green a five minute walk away meant accessibility to central London by the central line was a 10 minute journey. The location in Tower Hamlets is diverse, multicultural and lively. We felt safe but notice there was a fair amount of social deprivation graffiti and in need of investment. "
