Coloured houses
Some more cool street art.
This photo really sums up the old neighborhoods of Valparaíso - colorful homes, a nest of electrical wires, and a steeply raked, overgrown cobblestone street. These neighborhoods were highly desirable during the city's golden age (1848-1914) when it was a popular stop for ships rounding South America and was known as "The Jewel of the Pacific". A major earthquake in 1906 and the opening of the Panama Canal in 1914 doomed the city for decades. Today, much of the city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is seeing a resurgence in tourism and gentrification.
