•INSIDE FEATURES•

The living room area is furnished with a loveseat and ottoman with storage. Tucked away in the ottoman, you’ll find a few board games, as well as extra cozy throw blankets. There is a telescope to get up close and personal with the night sky.

The kitchenette is equipped with a dual burner propane stove top and mini fridge/freezer. Dishes, cookware, some spices, coffee and teas are provided. There is a breakfast bar inside and a picnic table outside for dining. An inline water filter at the kitchen sink provides filtered water for drinking.

The bedroom features a memory foam queen-size bed complete with bedding and pillows.

In the full private bathroom, you’ll find towels and toiletries to meet your needs. Please note that you must use the trashcan provided to dispose of all toilet paper and toiletry items to avoid clogging the system.

•OUTSIDE•
The casita is situated on 10 acres of open land, inviting you to explore and immerse yourself in nature. As you wander around, keep an eye out for fascinating rocks and fossils.

There is a fire pit and anti-gravity chairs that fully recline to provide the ultimate night sky viewing.

Remember to bring your own wood, charcoal, and lighter fluid!

There is a pool that you can access for $5/day at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. It is a 17 mile drive from our place on east on Terlingua Ranch Rd.

•OFF GRID•
This is an off grid home that is powered by the sun. That being said it does have limitations; please do not expect to charge your electric car. In the event of excessive cloudy weather we do have an alternative method to charge the batteries.

•WATER CONSERVATION•
This is the Chihuahuan Desert, water is scarce and of utmost importance. We collect all of our water during monsoon season. You have to conserve water if you stay here. It's as easy as turning the faucet off while you brush your teeth and taking quick showers.

•FIRE SAFETY•
Fire extinguishers are located under the kitchen sink and on the center post outside. If you have a camp fire please be mindful of fire safety. Do not have a fire if winds are high. The desert is a dry place and fires can spread very easily and very quickly. NEVER leave a fire unattended and be sure to EXTINGUISH all flames when you are finished.

•HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW•
-This is a dark remote area; we recommend planning your trip to arrive before dark. Google Maps will take you right to it!
-Cellular service is scarce out here. If you are using gps be sure to set it up while you have service. The closest public Wi-Fi is on the porch at the Little Burro Country Store - just north of Terlingua Ranch Rd. on Hwy 118.
-There is a grocery store in Alpine and in Study Butte. All stores close at 9pm or earlier.
-There is only a handful of restaurants here. During peak season the wait for a table can easily exceed 2hrs.
-Headlamps are provided for navigating the property at night.
-This property shares 10 acres with its sister property, El Coyote Terlingua - Red Bluff. There is plenty of space in-between units and a privacy wall to ensure you experience the solitude that our space provides.

  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

  • The Closed Canyon hike in Big Bend Ranch State Park was completely deserted when we went on a Tuesday in April. We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Amazing. Visit our blog post to hear it and see more!
