Lisa and Willard drove up from Atlanta for a long weekend to celebrate their tenth
anniversary. They instantly fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains, the quaint
towns, the winding mountain roads, and the leisurely pace of mountain life. By the
time Sunday night rolled around, they were talking about buying land.
Fifteen years later, they own ten acres in Suches, and just finished building The Bird
House — which was meant to be Lisa’s She-Shed, but quickly evolved into the
beautiful cabin you’re reading about now. Lisa tells me that one day she and Willard Pro Tips & Local Wisdom
● Hike Vogel State Park to the mesmerizing cascades of Trahlyta Falls and take
in amazing views of Blood Mountain
● Lace up your boots and explore 867,000 acres of scenery, history, and
culture at Chattahoochee-Oconee, Georgia’s only national forest
● Kayak and fish at nearby Coopers Creek and Toccoa River
● Pick up the Appalachian Trail at Woody Gap, the unofficial gateway to the
Appalachian Mountains
● Explore Suches, known for its scenic views and abundant outdoor activities,
as well as nearby towns of Dahlonega and Blairsville
● Have a taste, glass, or bottle at one of the local wineries. Our faves? Wolf
Mountain, Serenberry Vineyards, and Crane Creek Vineyards
The Small Print
● The Sounds of Silence: please limit outdoor use of speakers and other
amplified sound equipment to 8:00 am through 10:00 pm, Sunday through
Thursday; and 8:00 am through 11:00 pm, Friday and Saturday
● You love your doggo, and we’d love to host your furry friend. We charge a
$75 cleaning fee per dog. Cats make us sneeze; please leave them
with grandma
● The host will meet and greet you at the SVR office/store just down the road
before 5pm. Arriving after 5? No problem, just let us know and we’ll figure it
out together. We’ll send you an email with all the check-in details three days
before your arrival date
● Please leash and accompany your pup while on the property to protect them
and the wildlife, and don’t leave them at home alone (unless you have a
crate).
● We happily prepare a starter kit for your arrival (5 trash bags under kitchen
sink, 1 roll of paper towels per kitchen, 3 rolls of t.p. per bathroom, small
bars of body soap) — please anticipate any needs beyond that, and stock up
in town or bring with
