This sandstone house is mentioned as dating from 1752 in the book "Le Patrimoine des Communes du Bas-Rhin." The boatman Jean Jacques Ulrich, future member of the city's grand senate in 1761-62, obtained permission to transform the façade of his half-timbered house in the Regency style. In 1792, Daniel Ulrich, son of the boatman, commanded a company of Strasbourg pontoon engineers composed of Strasbourg volunteers.
