  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. The room was very clean and the staff were friendly. The only things I have a complaint over is the breakfast. Literally all there was for breakfast were pancakes, oatmeal, banana, yogurt, coffee and juice (apple and orange). Not much to choose from but we made due and the jets didn't work on the hot tub but was still warm. Other than that out stay was great.

All the plumbing was bad as the sink didnt drain and workers had to come in twice to fix, the toilet kept clogging and bathtub drained so slow. The hot tub did not work. But the worst part being we booked as breakfast was included and we had 2 early long days planned. The breakfast was only a pancake maker and orange/apple juice. No fruit and no proteins. No milk or anything nutritional. Staff was nice and polite and they are the only reason for a 2 star instead of 1

This was a wonderful hotel to stay in. The staff were very friendly. The hotel was very clean. It smelled clean just walking into the lobby. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The beds were not as comfortable as I would have liked. The beds were very firm. I still slept good. I would definitely stay here again.
