The tranquil setting of Pyramid Lake is popular with families and nature lovers for its excellent views and picnic areas. Choose from the many hiking trails that depart from the town of Jasper and pass through the scenic terrain of Jasper National Park.

Note how the lake, which has an area of around 300 acres (121 hectares), is shaped like a kidney. Gaze up at the rocky peaks to the northwest that include Pyramid Mountain, Mount Kinross and Cairngorm. In winter, capture photos of the scenic blend of green forests and snow-capped mountains reflected in the placid water.

Follow hiking paths through woodland to appreciate the serenity of this natural setting. When at their largest, the imposing Douglas fir trees that can be found throughout the national park have a trunk diameter of around 3.3 feet (1 meter). Spot elk, deer, moose and even black and grizzly bears among the wildlife. Gaze up to the skies for barred owl, Barrow’s goldeneye and the pied-billed grebe.
