Be prepared to walk 303 stairs if you want to go to the top of the monument. the view isn't amazing but still it is nice. You can take an elevator to the top for $6 but it was broke when we visited. The stairs are always free though!!!
There are no restrooms at the monument or anywhere in the area. The restaurants around require a purchase to use their restrooms. The elevator to the top of the monument is $2 per person unless you want to climb over 300 stairs. With the elevator one still has 49 stairs to climb in a tight space to reach the observation platform.
Nice photo opportunity both day and night. I was told you could visit a museum inside the monument and go up into it to an observation area. Unfortunately I didn't hear this until I was leaving. There are a lot of homeless in the area but it is well traveled and lighted.
