Villa Le Fontanelle: Home to Celebrities

Present owner of this magnificient Villa is Russian millionaire Arkady Novikov who bought it in 2008 for a price of 33 million Euros.
It was previously owned by Gianni Versace from 1977 until his murder in 1997. Before his death, celebrities such as Sir Elton John, Sting and Madonna were guests in the building.
Since the death of Versace, only American singer Jennifer Lopez and her husband Chris Judd spent their honeymoon there. It is not open to the public but can be viewed from the lake.
The Villa itself "Le Fontanelle" was originally built in 1776 and owned prior to Versace by the Cambiaghi family. Versace purchased this magnificent villa in 1977 and completely refurbished the property ay huge expense. He restored the elegant neo-classic style true to their original design and Versace supervised every element of the restoration and furnished the villa personally.

"The property and views were wonderful and Mr. Luigi was fantastic. PLEASE do yourself a favor and enter the address into Google or Apple Maps and DO NOT rely on the map within the VRBO app. It is wrong. This Villa is up the hill in Perledo and not very accessible walking. We made due but it was certainly not where VRBO leads you to believe it is."

"5/5 Great family trip and fits 4-5 total people easy. It’s a 3 story property, but only the top is live able. The inside is dated, but the outside more than made up for it…Everyone enjoyed jumping off the first story ledge into the water, the property is large and has amazing views all over. "Good value for money and friendly host. I would give it 3.5 stars. The property has a lovely garden and view of the lake but best suits someone with a car as there is a limited bus timetable to and from Varenna and is not suitable for walking. We travelled in October so perhaps there may be better transport options in the summer months. The room had everything we needed but could do with some updating."

"Such a lovely Villa and a helpful property manager. If you're looking for a unique experience and a beautiful get away then this is your place! Amazing view of Bellagio just across the water on Lago Como. Downtown Varenna is just a short 10 minute drive from the Villa but it feels remote and with the Villa being right on the waterfront, the sounds of the water lapping on the rocks below can lull you to sleep at night.
