Situated on the Devon Dorset border the Historic Rousdon Estate was originally built for the Peek Family to be a totally self sufficient country residence and is now a grand and truly peaceful location for a holiday on the Jurassic coast. A private pathway puts Charton Bay just under 1 mile away, and the secluded beach has a peaceful, remote feel, backed by coastal woodland. Just 3.5 miles along the coast, discover the seaside resort town of Lyme Regis. The walk to the ‘Pearl of Dorset’ takes you along the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with layers of ancient fossils and fascinating clifftops. When you arrive, discover golden sandy beaches, a picturesque harbour and plenty of seaside activities to enjoy, including opportunities for sailing, fishing and savouring fresh seafood. In the opposite direction, follow the coast to find Seaton (4.5 miles) and the village of Beer (6 miles), with the Beer Quarry Caves (7 miles) offering a fascinating day out.
On arrival, take in the spectacular atmosphere of the estate, set in 350 acres of beautiful park and farmland, the estate comprises of the large Mansion house with additional buildings, a large stable block, several farms, cottages, and a church. The estate has become a community of individual residential properties. This property is part of the old stable block with its majestic clock tower and ornate Italian marble fountain (apparently pulled up from the beach after a shipwreck). The Victorian façade of this 1870s building has been painstakingly maintained, yet inside you’ll find thoughtful renovations that make this property a comfortable home-from-home. Light and cheerful, with daylight streaming in, this two-storey abode creates ample space for relaxation. Make your way inside, leaving coats and boots by the entrance as you head into the kitchen. Spacious, with every appliance you may need and a handy breakfast table at its centre, this kitchen acts as the social hub of everyday family life. Next door, the lounge/diner provides a more formal spot to sit down and dine together, along with ample comfy seating to retire to when the evening draws to a close. Switch on the Smart TV to begin an evening of relaxation. Take the stairs up to the first floor to discover three bedrooms, each with pretty views to wake up to. Whilst the master double bedroom boasts its own private en-suite, the second and third bedrooms (a twin and a restful single) share access to the family bathroom, which is spacious and offers both a bath and a shower over.
Whilst there’s no designated garden space, the 350 acres of shared grounds provide plenty of room to explore the outdoors, and the private beach less than 1 mile away offers a wonderful setting for ball games and picnics. Private parking is allocated, with space to leave two cars just a few metres from your door. With its long sweeping drive, mature trees and majestic buildings, it is rich in wildlife and is a totally unique destination for a West Country get away.
