Cozy Cabin with all essentials needed for cooking and sleeping, hot tub was a great experience, the river view was beautiful just a heads up, it is very shallow in front of cabin and might need water shoes since there is a lot of rock. Host was great with giving information.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was very peaceful and quiet. Lots of wildlife and the view of the Shenandoah Valley River was amazing. Would definitely stay here again.
Our stay was exactly what the doctor ordered. My partner and I were looking for a nice waterfront getaway house for the weekend and this place delivered. Only wish we could have stayed a little longer! Perfect for a couple or small family, the house had some nice perks. The outdoor decks were nice for relaxing and dinning. We didn't get a chance to use the hot tube but it did look inviting. We did put the canoes to good use though and enjoyed the riverside fire pit at night. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Thank you for your hospitality.
Just what the doctor ordered during hectic home renovations! We had a great time here with our 2 retrievers watching them swim in the river, sitting around the campfire at night, hiking during the day and relaxing in the hot tub… simple pleasures are the best!
The Shenandoah river ran through all our cares at home, helping us release them and return home rejuvenated 😊🏞️🐾

Relaxing Weekend Getaway
We had a great time spending a long holiday weekend here. It was relaxing and peaceful and perfect for what we needed. However I would say the place needs some work and the owner should put some money back into it. The directv barely works and the internet is non existent but we made due without it. Cosmetically it needs some love. If it got some love we’d probably visit frequently however next time we’ll probably look for a more put together place. Location is fantastic so if you’re cool with rustic and rough around the edges then you’ll love it.

Bear Valley July 2023
Bear Valley Cabin has great riverfront access, we used one of the canoes on our visit. The fire pit and seating is a great hangout space as is the lower level deck with a place to store all of your River and fishing gear with a washer and dryer so you don’t need to pack a lot. The upper level deck has a nice picnic table and grill, also a hot tub which we chose not to use, it is quite dated and jets are barely functional. The kitchen is very well equipped and has a dishwasher and electric cooktop. The bathroom shower has good water pressure and there is no odor to the water. The beds are comfortable enough and the living room furniture isn’t bad at all except the recliner is a little tough to operate, we did not utilize the sleeper sofa. The space is perfect for 4 adults.
My husband and father spent time on the river fly fishing and making memories. The neighbors were friendly and inviting. Our truck’s water pump went out and one neighbor brought tools over to help. I was a little apprehensive about getting this place since I the rental agreement wasn’t available on the listing and didn’t really agree on having to pay for “extra people” (one person is included in the stay, but if you’re traveling with your spouse, you’ll pay extra for them) since it was me and my husband, but we were last minute traveling and this was our best option. Nonetheless, we absolutely loved the place and will come back again. The hot tub was the perfect touch to our mornings. Our dogs were right at home and enjoyed the water too. There were seasonings and basic cookware in the kitchen but the stores are only 20 mins away if you need anything. We’ll stay longer next time we’re in town!
We enjoyed our stay immensely. Lisa, the property manager stated communication with us whenever I had a question. We lost power for about one hour during our stay. This knocked out the Wi-Fi and there is no Internet connection in this area so we had to drive towards town to get phone reception. We called Lisa and left her a text message. She responded immediately and within the hour power had been restored. The cabin is somewhat small, but was clean and tidy. There were only two of us so it was perfect. A family of four could really enjoy it as well. Another float for people to use would be nice as there was only the one. The canoes and paddles and lifejackets were very nice. It was exactly what we were looking for for a peaceful getaway weekend. The area has a lot to do. Fort Valley Ranch was great horseback riding. The wildlife was abundant. We want to return in a couple months to the same property.

A Lovely Time at a Lovely Cabin
We've previously stayed at another cabin down the road from Bear Valley, but this year we wanted to try something different. Bear Valley provided an excellent sanctuary for my group to relax, unwind, and recover from "real life". We tubed in the Shenandoah River, played board games at night, napped in hammocks, and played yard games in the grassy yard every day. The cabin was clean, well maintained, and modern. Wifi was decent -- but obviously we're not there to surf the web. The gas grill was a real delight to use because it's hooked to the main line -- no propane tank to fuss with! Wild life was plentiful to watch, between the heron, beaver, and numerous songbirds nearby.
I found the posted notes 'real life tutorial popups' on appliances and near points-of-interest in the cabin to be helpful and not pandering. Keep that door closed, folks! The note about bugs getting in the house is true and real. The hot tub was excellent for evening socializing.
Overall, I felt well taken care of at Bear Valley and hope to return next season.
We married at this very house in 2014. We went back with our 3 kids this trip to celebrate 10 years. There were some similarities and some glaring differences, unfortunately.
The disappointments we had were, that there were ants indoors, immediately. If you leave food in the counters for longer than one hour, ants had taken to them. The coffee pot shattered upon first use. The hot tub was not functional, showing a maintenance symbol upon first use. The grass was very, very long upon arrival and then randomly cut leaving wet grass we had to clean off our kids and dog constantly.
We did air some of these concerns to the house staff during our visit but also telling them not to fix them. Our reasoning was we do not go on vacation to constantly have maintenance in and out during out stay. What is done is done. They also offered a a response, without remorse or realization that we perhaps didn't get what he paid for.
Overall, We will not return. This house as a wonderful place to be married in 2014, right under to porch in a rainstorm. It will hold those memories, thankfully.

Got off to a rocky start but...
When we arrived at the cabin we attempted to use the code for the lock box provided to access the key. It didn't work. We tried calling the number for the house manager and go no answer and no call back. We called the management company, the did call us back and were able to provide the correct lock box code.
The house was in a perfect location with plenty of river access and some shady trees. We are older, so we didn't take advantage of most of the supplied equipment but there was a lot of it, so if you are more active you will be able to entertain yourselves. Speaking of being older, if you have mobility issues there are a lot of steps to navigate.
We were able to see a menagerie of wildlife - fox, deer, great blue herons, osprey, rabbits and a fat ground hog that had den under the front deck. There are a lot of gnats so bring bug repellent if they are a bother to you.
The internet was OK, but the satellite TV reception was very limited. There are a number of steaming apps that work well. Installing You Tube TV on the TV would have helped us.
The house could use some sprucing up, but overall it was comfortable, had a good water treatment system and a well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed out stay very much.
Sweet location, clean interior and nicely stocked kitchen (utensils, dishes etc). Grill worked well. Locks a bit of a challenge due to door fit. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the peace and beauty.
