"I have stayed at Westlands several times and always had a comfortable break. The rooms are well maintained and are exceptionally clean and comfortable. The staff are all friendly and clearly well trained. Breakfast is very busy as it seems guests from the neighbouring hotel join those at Westlands. While the food is plentiful, the dining experience could be improved as tables are tightly packed together and this leaves little space for the multiple visitors to the buffet that guests tend to make."
"“Booked this hotel expecting a high-quality stay based on the price and facilities advertised, but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. We paid £144 for one night and the hotel felt very run down, dated, and in need of major refurbishment. The room and overall property did not feel worth the money at all.
We specifically chose this hotel because of the leisure centre, gym, sauna and spa facilities, but even those were underwhelming and disappointing compared to what we expected from a hotel in this price range. There are far more modern hotels nearby for cheaper prices that offer a much better overall experience.
The staff were genuinely lovely, friendly and helpful throughout our stay, which was the only real positive. You could tell they were doing their best. However, great staff alone cannot make up for how tired and neglected the hotel feels overall.
For the price paid, I expected comfort, quality and a more modern environment. Instead, it felt old-fashioned, worn out and overpriced. Sadly, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it unless the hotel undergoes significant improvements and refurbishment.”"
"On a week end break, my wife and I, who had enjoyed a stay at the hotel in 2012, were most disappointed. The building and furnishings were tired, the bed uncomfortable, and the room had seen better days. The seats in the longe area were worn, sometimes stained too. There were too few staff available at the reception desks, with at times long queues of guests waiting to check in. We had chosen the half board option, but were also not impressed by that. Some of the dishes at the dinner consisted of cheap frozen food, sometimes it took a while for the staff to replenish what had run out. On our first dinner, the white fish was very well cooked, but not so on the second. The deserts were not appealing at all. At breakfast, the milk ran out one morning and in general the food presented was not very appetising. Additionally, we were advised via a page of notes handed out on arrival that room service would not take place (as it only happened, once, if you stayed five or more days). Overall, we left very unimpressed and do not intend to return. This hotel was supposed to be four stars. What we experienced fell way below that."
"Some of the male staff were very inattentive during breakfast. Plates weren’t cleared during the breakfast and when they were the tables were not cleaned. The female staff were excellent."
"This was a beautiful, cosy place to stay. Staff were super friendly and the lobby, guest areas and pub and restaurant were beautiful and welcoming. I would definitely stay again!"
"Our check in staff were quite rude, though the young man who checked us out was very nice. We had booked two rooms and one was pretty good, the other had a broken shower and housekeeping failed to leave any amenities. When the desk was called, no one answered. The property is within walking distance to town and hiking in the Cairngorms, which was really nice. Our first morning of breakfast was disappointing as they didn’t have several items ready, but the second morning was good. Overall, very inconsistent."
