One of the best choice in Arashiyama...considering the price and services. Located right above of the Arashiyama station and is on the touristic street with lots of interesting gift shop and restaurant, and only few minutes walk from hotel to famous Tenryuji temple, the moon bridge. Nice, quiet and clean, the hotel cafe have a stunning view of Arashiyama mountain, not to mention the public hot bath in the hotel is the best ending for a day of touristic walk. Will definitely come back again.
Loved this hotel. Good location; many shops and restaurants nearby. Within walking distance of the bamboo forest. The kimono light art installation is down stairs in the train station. It was inexpensive but classy. The Shower/Bath area was spa-like. I spent time relaxing in the bath twice a day. All the shampoos, facial cleansers, towels, scrub wash cloth, pajamas, slippers, tooth brushes, hair dryers, Q-tips, brushes etc. were included. You shower first, put your hair up, then relax in the bath. There is soft music playing. Men and women have separate facilities.
There was a coin clothes washer and dryer, which is nice since you will want to pack light because you will be dragging your luggage on trains and buses. The bed is a twin size and you roll your “garage door down” when you want to sleep. There is a lock area in your sleep cubby big enough for clothes and laptop. The sleeping quarters are “quiet” – no talk, cell phones ringing, TV noise. If you want to talk on your phone or with your friends you go to the lounge or the rooftop bar which has great views. The staff was so helpful with train schedules. We were newbies and found it intimidating. We got a portable WIFI at the airport and used google maps extensively for train schedules, but it was nice to have a local person’s reassurance. All this and they fed us a traditional breakfast for around $50.00/night
Totally enjoyed the stay. Quiet, safe, clean, and a big soaking tub(public) to relax the muscle! Location is good, too, as you just step out and there are many places to eat. Only minutes walk to the famous bamboo forest, temple and bridge.
The friendly staff and wonderful location made our visit very comfortable. I think I would prefer to stay here versus staying in Kyoto, once most of the tourist crowds die down Arashiyama is a beautiful quiet place that should be enjoyed. The Rooftop area was a bonus to this fine establishment.
