We went back and forth about taking this trip at all. We started planning in March, and agonized over where the best place to stay would be. We were initially looking to stay on the west side of the island... then came the Lahaina fires. I had booked a place 7 miles west of the worst hit areas, and once again we were looking at not taking this trip. I thought we would take one more shot at finding something on the south side of Maui... and I found this house on Hamala St. Nothing could have been better suited for our trip. There were six of us... myself and my wife, my adult son and his girlfriend, and our two younger kids... 9 and 14. The home itself is a very simple cottage. It felt like a family home, without any pomp or pretense in any way... then came the location. I can't possibly say enough about the location of this home. The pictures don't even come close to doing it justice, it's literally one of the most photogenic places I've ever stayed. There are few better places on Maui to watch the sun set, it's very private feeling, great for seeing stars every night, and waking up to the surf in your back yard was absolute perfection. I've got a number of close friends who live on Maui, and they were all quick to say that we couldn't have done better in any way. They see various parts of the island everyday, but all fell in love with this spot on Hamala St. It was a super easy spot to get to and from the airport, and ideal for daytrips anywhere on Maui.
