Jacques-Cartier Park

Room and public areas are generally clean. The decor is somewhat unusual with a large tree trunk on each floor near the elevator. It does not have parking, but it has agreement with the hotel next door (Le Mount Stephen) that one can park there overnight for a cost of 40 CAD/night. It has free breakfast though minimal (pastry, bread, cereal, yogurt, coffee) in a small room right across the check-in desk. The room on the top floor (3rd) has a large rectangle opening ceiling that lets natural light to come through. The hotel hangs a white thin cloth over the opening to minimize direct sunlight from entering. This is good in the day time because the room is very bright, but the downside is that as soon as the sun comes up, one can no longer sleep due to the room brightness. And even though the room has AC, it heats up quickly, particularly when the temperature gets above 85F.

This place was amazing! Good sized rooms, modern and clean decor, comfy beds, great views if you can get a room on the upper floors, nice pool and fitness centre and perfectly located in a nice part of downtown off of st Catherine’s street. Everything was really perfect and the host front desk went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and well set up.

We booked this hotel for a couples getaway, and it was a rather disappointing stay. While the desk and cleaning staff were friendly and helpful, the maintenance, dining, and outdoor amenities were not at all what we’d expected. Our room had bare patches in the carpet, and there were spikes coming slightly through the carpet in one place. There were also a lot of scuffs everywhere (the wall, etc) and my pillowcase was stained. When we woke up one morning, there were two men standing directly on the other side of our window, getting ready to clean them—something we weren’t warned about. It was very awkward running over to close the curtains! We chose this hotel because of the pool and rooftop gardens, but in the end, we didn’t use them. When we walked around the rooftop, there was garbage left around, and sour smells. The pool was not as large as it appears in the images online, and it was constantly full of families. Finally, we were surprised to learn that the hotel restaurants, bar, and even room service closed at 11:00. It does state this on their website, though, we just missed it. We did order room service one night, and the wait was VERY long, the food was mediocre, and my drink was very watered down. It was also the most expensive meal we had on the trip, and we didn’t order as much as we did at other (very nice) places. This is probably a great place for families to stay. But I would not recommend it for solo adults or couples.
