The town is well served by a host of independent shops and has plenty of places to eat and drink - from cosy tea rooms to pubs, bars and restaurants. It retains much of its old charm as a historic seaside destination, enhanced by the modern amenities which you would expect.
Further afield for those seeking retail therapy, Beverley, a 30 minute drive away, offers a plethora of boutiques and eateries or a day at the races.
